Douglas
Motorsports Wins “Best in the Desert” Finale
-
-
After taking the runner-up spot at the Vegas 300 back in October,
Scott Douglas and co-driver Jeremy Runyen were looking to bring the
Rancho,
AMSOIL,
Kumho Tire,
Reider Racing,
KC HiLites,
Sycuan Resort & Casino,
Ford
Explorer to the top of the podium. The 2006
BITD
Silver State series had the Henderson 400 as its last event of the
year, and Douglas Motorsports saved its best desert performance for
last.
-
The day of the
event brought clear skies, temperatures in mid 50’s, and a brisk
wind that kept the 81-mile course dust free. Scott Douglas and the
rest of Class 3100 were scheduled to complete three laps, while the
higher horsepower classes were required to make four passes.
-
-
The Nevada
desert was even rougher than usual, as heavy fall rains pelted the
high desert. The rains washed away much of loose dirt and silt,
exposing more boulders and rocks to punish the BITD competitors.
-
-
The adverse
conditions put a premium on finishing the event. Scott and Jeremy
realized keeping a steady pace would be key to bringing home the
Ford Explorer. The start of the race was uneventful and by mile 10,
the Rancho AMSOIL Ford Explorer had taken the class lead on time.
The rest of the race saw the team perform perfectly. In fact the
team ever stopped. The 67-gallon fuel cell enabled the truck to
complete the entire distance without refueling.
-
-
Scott and
Jeremy took the checkered flag and the Class 3100 win with a time of
7 hours, 48 minutes, 38 seconds. The second place truck of Mike
Falkosky was eighteen minutes back.
-
-
After climbing
out of the truck at the finish, Scott Douglas commented, “ What a
great race. We never got out of the truck the entire day. The Kumho
Tires performed perfect, not a single flat tire. That’s amazing as
we saw all kinds of guys limping around with flat tires. This
Nevada desert is really hard on tires. We brought home Kumho’s first
desert win. AMSOIL kept our engine and tranny temps right where we
like it. This was also the first desert win for our newest sponsor,
Sycuan Resort & Casino without them and everyone else that’s on the
truck, we couldn’t come out here and perform the way we did today.”

-
-
Special thanks
goes to the Sycuan Resort & Casino. Since their involvement, in
October, with Douglas Motorsports, the team has captured two
victories (CORR Pro-4 Rd. 15, BITD Class 3100 Henderson 400) and a
second place finish (BITD Class 3100 Vegas 300). In fact, the team
finished in the top-5, five times out of the six events raced.
-
-
The class win
at the 2006 Henderson 400 was also the 70thcareer victory
for Scott Douglas. His off-road racing career spans over twenty
years with victories in the deserts of Baja, Nevada, and California,
as well as short course victories in sports stadiums and raceways
across the United States.
-
Even though
the 2006 off-road racing season is complete, Scott Douglas will be
back in the desert next week with Ford Motor Company. Scott will be
involved with the testing and evaluation of new vehicles for Ford
Trucks.
