CORR LA FAIRPLEX SATURDAY / SUNDAY RACE RECAP from www. corracing.com

Pomona, CA (May 21, 2007)—Championship Off Road Racing sold out for the first time in CORR history Sunday May 20th at the LA Fairplex. Over 12,000 fans filled the stands and were there to witness one of the greatest CORR races in the Pro 2 class.

Round 4 of the CORR Lucas Oil Series was filled with contact and action. Dan “The Flying Dutchman” VandenHeuvel of t
he Amsoil Kumho tire Super team took the lead with 4 Wheel parts Greg Adler in second and Jerry Whelchel running in third. Adler spun out in a 360 at turn two causing him to fall back in the line and bringing Monster Energy trucks Whelchel and Robby Gordon up. In lap 3, turn 1 there was contact between Renezeder and Gordon; Gordon pirouetted in the air, landed on all fours, and continued the race, but lost his position. Renezeder got around Whelchel and VandenHeuvel, and led the race into the mandatory yellow. After the restart, there was contact causing a mini pile up in turn one. VandenHeuvel and Whelchel got through it and took the lead again. In lap 12, on the second turn on the asphalt there was another tangle up and the line changed again. Todd LeDuc, Ricky Johnson and Gordon all got around Renezeder. Johnson battled LeDuc for third position. In the final lap between turn 5 and 6 Johnson got into LeDuc and spun him, leaving a window for Renezeder and Gordon to get by. Whelchel came in first for the second time this season, VandenHeuvel placed second, and Renezeder crossed the finish in third. NASCAR driver Robby Gordon came in fourth.

Dan VandenHeuvel took the lead in the Pro 2 Jason Baldwin Memorial Cup Qualifier race putting up battles first with Rob MacCachren, then Ricky Johnson and finally Carl Renezeder. Red Bull, BFG #29 Rob MacCachren got around VandenHeuvel in the second lap and the two battled it out. TOYO Tires, KMC Wheels sponsored Ricky Johnson and Monster Energy, NASCAR driver Robby Gordon had their own race going on. In between turn 6 and 7 Gordon went off the jump into the k-rail, breaking his front right suspension. MacCachren slowed with a problem and fell back, putting VandenHeuvel back in the lead and moving Ricky Johnson into second. VandenHeuvel and Johnson raced side by side through the straight away but got into each other spinning Johnson and sending him to the hot pits. By the mandatory yellow, Carl Renezeder in his Lucas Oil Nissan Pro-2 with BFGoodrich Tires and AEM Air Intake System had moved into second chasing VandenHeuvel. Greg Adler in the 4 Wheel Parts truck lined up in third and Jesse Jones in fourth. At the restart, VandenHeauvel put up a fight to hold his position, but lost it to Renezeder in lap 9. Renezeder ran away with the lead but got a flat tire, giving VandenHeuvel the opportunity to reclaim his position. Renezeder hung on, actually pulling the fastest lap times on that flat tire. Renezeder took first, VandenHeuvel came in second, and Adler took third.

In the CORR Lucas Oil Series round 4, Curt LeDuc led from the pole for the first 4 laps, but lost his position to Johnny Greaves between turn one and two. Pro Comp Suspensions #5 Travis Coyne battled with LeDuc and was able to get around him when LeDuc rolled in turn 4. LeDuc landed on all fours and continued in the race to the end finishing in 6th. Josh Baldwin moved to third, and Scott Douglas battled with him in fourth, getting around him before the yellow. In lap 9 Coyne fell back, and Rick Huseman worked his way up the line to second battling and passing Baldwin and Douglas in turn 6, lap 10. Carl Renezeder, who was working his way up the line, passed Douglas in lap 13 to take on his brother-in-law Baldwin. In the final lap Renezeder was able to get around Baldwin to round out the podium. Greaves took first and Huseman placed second.

The Pro Lite race was between Casey Currie, Robert Naughton, Rodrigo Ampudia and Kyle LeDuc each getting time in the lead. Suspensions Unlimited Casey Currie, took over the lead in the first lap, and Rodrigo Ampudia got around Currie. But Rodrigo’s gear shifter stuck forcing him to slow and loose his position. Ampudia worked his way back up the line, but got pinched by lap traffic and rolled between turn 6 and 7. Ampudia recovered from the roll and continued the race. LeDuc led the race into yellow, with Currie in second, Naughton in third and Jeff Huseman in fourth. Before the track went green #73 Brian Cannon jumped up onto #18 Bill Markel, ending the race for Cannon. At the restart Javier Sacio and Huseman got into each other in the air causing Huseman to roll into the fence followed by #40 Bobby Altamirano rolling along the straight away. The two wrecks caused another restart. At the final restart Naughton and LeDuc made contact in turn one and Naughton took the lead. LeDuc moved to Naughton’s side to take back his position, but couldn’t get around him. Approaching the white flag, at turn 7 LeDuc fell back with a broken axel and Ampudia and Currie moved up the line. The three leaders maintained their positions in the last lap. Naughton took first, Ampudia placed second and Currie podiumed in third. The contact between LeDuc and Naughton is under review by CORR officials and penalties may be assessed.
