PRO-2 - Round Two
-
Polesitter Jerry Whelchel grabs the lead right from
the start with Robby Gordon in second. On lap 2
Gordon spins as much of the field goes by. Then
second place Carl Renezeder has a driveline failure,
whille Mark Porter rolls in the final turn. Lap 3
sees Gordon pull off with a broken right front
spindle.
-
-
Then running order now finds Jerry Whelchel out
front with Rob MacCachern, Ricky Johnson, Todd LeDuc,
and Dan Vandenhuvel in tow. The top two are running
very close together as the rest of the field begins
to spread out.
-
-
With two laps to go Whelchel and MacCachern are
battling for energy drink supremacy. The two veteran
off-road competitors are battling side by side just
like the day before. This time Whelchel and his
Monster backed Ford, leads MacCachern and his Red
Bull Ford across the finish.
-
-
Officially it was 1st-Jerry Whelchel, 2nd-Rob
MacCachern, 3rd-Ricky Johnson.
-
PRO-4 - Round Two
-
The start had Carl Renezeder on the pole with Round
One winner Johnny Greaves starting midpack due to an
early qualifying draw and a just watered track. The
start had Renezeder grabbing the holeshot, while the
rest of the field experienced some serious carnage.
Scott Douglas came through hayhem in second, but
Johnny Greaves wasn't as fortunate.
-
-
As Greaves came out of turn one, his truck went over
the the outside concrete K-Rail and hit a telephone
pole. This brought out the red flag immediately and
field would be lined up for a restart. Quickly
several trucks went to the hot pits to access the
damage to their trucks. At one point Barlow, LeDuc,
Cenni, Huseman, Troy Herbst, and Douglas spent time
in the pits. Herbst, Douglas, and Huseman were the
only ones to get back on the track for the restart.
Douglas who was to line up second for the restart
was now eighth due to a tire change in the hot pits.
-
-
The restart had Renezeder grab the holeshot with
Josh Baldwin second, and Marty Coyne third. The top
three finished in that order with, Troy Herbst and
Douglas battling back for the fourth spot, with
Herbst grabbing the spot.
-
-
Results were: 1st- Carl Renezeder, 2nd-Josh Baldwin,
3rd-Travis Coyne, 4th-Troy Herbst, and 5th-Scott
Douglas.
-
PRO-Lite - Round Two
-
The holeshot was taken by Kyle LeDuc, but by the end
of lap one, Robert Naughton had grabbed the lead. On
lap 3, Casey Currie made a strong move around LeDuc
for second. On lap 6, Naughton's motor goes sour and
pulls off.
-
At the mandatory yellow, the top 3 are Currie, LeDuc,
and Ampudia.
-
-
When the field went back to green, the top two
pulled away from third place. Then the maturity of
Casey Currie really began to show. Several
times former class champion Kyle LeDuc would make a
run on the leader, but could not make the pass
stick. Then on the final turn of the final lap as
the two came down the grandstand straightaway
side by side, LeDuc edged out in front of Currie for
the win.
-
-
The results were 1st-Kyle LeDuc, 2nd-Casey Currie,
3rd-Rodego Ampudia, and 4th-Jeff Huseman.
-
Baldwin Cup PRO-2 Qualifier
-
The near capacity crowd roared as Robby Gordon
blasted by polesitter Jerry Whelchel. The next
few laps saw Whelchel and MacCachern trying every
line they could in the hopes of catching Gordon. As
second and third place battled, Gordon began to open
up a slight lead.
-
Then on lap 4, Gordon pulls off the track as the
right rear corner is damaged, ending his race early.
The battle between Whelchel and MacCachern continued
for the lead. Just when "Mac" might have
something for Whelchel, his ring and pinion let go, leaving
Carl Renezeder and Ricky Johnson to keep the
pressure on the leader.
-
After the mandatory yellow flag lap Whelchel, Carl,
and RJ were nose to tail. At one point Carl
nosed in front of Whelchel coming out of the infield
corner, only to have the #41 muscle past. With two
laps to go, Whelchel, Renezeder, and Johnson were
side by side going into turn 2 when Carl spun. Now
RJ was able to get right next Whelchel going through
the infield, but Jerry Whelchel in his Monster
Energy Wide Open Baja BFGoodrich Ford F-150 was able
to hold off RJ as they crossed the finish line. The
official podium positions were: 1st-Jerry
Whelchel, 2nd-Ricky Johnson, and 3rd-Carl Renezeder.
