SATURDAY RACE RECAP - CHULA VISTA II
Todd LeDuc and Dan Vanden Heuvel take home first WINS of
2007, AND 2006 Pro Lite Champion Chad Hord makes his return to
Corr with a podium finish
Chula Vista, CA (Saturday, September 29, 2007)— It was an
exciting day of intense battles and heated feuds at the Chula
Vista International Raceway today. Championship Off Road Racing
had over 13,000 fans in the stands and they were all on their
feet to watch Champ Car Champion Paul Tracy take his first try
at off road racing. Todd LeDuc and Dan Vanden Heuvel took home
their first wins of the season. Rodrigo Ampudia made his debut
in the Pro 2 class and took home a win in the Pro Lite series.
Todd LeDuc in his Rockstar Energy Drink number 3 led the field
at the start of the Jason Baldwin Memorial Cup Pro 2 Qualifier.
Dan Vanden Heuvel and Greg Adler got turned around in the first
turn on lap one; both trucks were unable to return to the race.
Mark Porter also got caught in the pile up, but was able to stay
in the race. It was a battle between LeDuc and MacCachren as
they took off from the rest of the field on lap two. Jerry
Whelchel held onto third position trying to reel in the two
front runners. MacCachren took the lead on lap seven of fifteen.
LeDuc passed him to take the lead coming out of turn three going
into the ski jump, but was passed again by MacCachren. The two
energy drink sponsored drivers continued to battle it out making
it a Rockstar vs. Red Bull race. Whelchel continued to hold onto
third position in his Monster Energy Drink Ford. LeDuc continued
to work to take the lead from MacCachren when the mandatory
caution came out on lap eight. When the flag was dropped the
battled continued. LeDuc took the lead on turn one of lap 10.
Whelchel and Seven time Supercross champ Ricky Johnson battled
it out for the third position. MacCahren fell back to the fifth
position after MacCachren spun out on the straight away of lap
11. LeDuc ran off with the lead, Whelchel sat in second while a
battle broke out for the third position between Johnson and Carl
Renezeder. Whelchel came off of the ski jump hard landing on two
wheels. Johnson took advantage of the opportunity to battle
Whelchel for second on the final stretch of the race. In the end
it was LeDuc with his first win of the 2007 season, Johnson in
second and Whelchel rounding out the podium.
“The competition yellow got me back in the race. It was so much
fun watching how wild Jerry drives and then getting the
opportunity to battle like that at the end of the race,” said
Johnson.
“Great racing today, it was fun fighting for a position against
all these guys. I don’t mind getting beat by the king of
Supercross,” said Whelchel.
Johnny Greaves led the field to the green in the Lucas Oil Pro 4
Points race on Sunday. Scott Douglas in his Amsoil sponsored
number seven quickly took the lead coming out of turn one.
Douglas flipped over coming out to turn four, collecting Curt
LeDuc whose truck landed on its side. The field was restored for
a mandatory restart. When the field took off the number 22 of
Greaves had the lead, Rick Huseman sat in second, the number 11
of Adrian Cenni sat in third, Carl Renezeder held onto fourth,
and Curt LeDuc rounded out the top five. Huseman in his Fabtech
Toyota and Cenni in his BFG Chevy batted in out for the second
position. Cenni prevailed passing Huseman on turn three of lap
two. Huseman held onto third with Renezeder lurking behind in
fourth. Tim Herbst crashed in turn one of lap three taking him
out of the race. The field began to stager out with Greaves in
his Monster Energy sponsored number 22 pulling away from the
field. When the mandatory caution came out on lap eight Greaves
continued to lead the field with Cenni in second and the Fabtech
sponsored number 36 of Huseman in third. When the race went
green Greaves continued to lead until he wrecked in turn three.
He managed to land on his wheels and continued in the race.
Meanwhile Cenni took off with the lead only to loose it when he
got black flagged for causing Greaves’ wreck. Renezeder took
over the lead with Huseman in second and Travis Coyne in the Pro
Comp number five in third. Huseman took the inside line on turn
five only to be blocked by the Renezeder who led the field. In
the end it was Renezeder with the win, Huseman in second and
Coyne rounding out the podium.
“This time we qualified out of position we had our work cut out
for us, we tried to catch up to Huseman, but it just didn’t
happen, said Coyne.”
“I just tried to drive a conservative race and the race just
fell in my lap. I just stuck to my game plan and I am really
happy with this win,” said Renezeder.
The Monster Energy Drink sponsored number 36 of Rodrigo Ampudia
led the field in the Pro Lite Points race on Saturday. Robert
Naughton in his Ready Lift Suspension Ford sat in second and the
Rockstar Energy Drink Sponsored number 99 of Kyle LeDuc ran in
the third position. Matt Barney went out of the race on lap
three due to a mechanical failure. Meanwhile, Ampudia in his
Papas and Beers Ford continued to lead the field. LeDuc and
Naughton raced on the front stretch for second at the start of
lap 5. When the mandatory caution came out on lap eight Ampudia
had led all eight laps. Naughton remained in second while LeDuc
held onto third position and 2006 Pro Lite Champion Chad Hord
held onto fourth. Ampudia took off with the lead when the race
went green. LeDuc went off the track on lap 10 of 14 due to
mechanical failure. Meanwhile Ampudia and Naughton continued to
battle it out for the win. In the end it was Ampudia with his
second win of the season, Naughton in second and Hord finishing
third. Rodrigo Ampudia took home the $1,000.00 Bully Dog hard
charger award.
“I am really looking forward to getting back and running with
these guys. Just to be here again for all of our sponsors—Lucas
Oil and Nissan, it was great,” said Hord.
“Rodrigo drove a great race, he raced some hard lines. I tried
to drive clean; it was fun battling through the whole race. I am
really looking forward to the rest of the season and trying to
secure this Championship,” said Naughton.
“It was great to be out here after our wreck at Antelope Valley.
The points race isn’t over we are going to battle to the end in
this Monster Energy, Papas and Beers Ford," said Ampudia.
Todd LeDuc in his Rockstar Energy Drink number 3 led the field
to green in the Lucas Oil Points race on Saturday. Dan Vanden
Heuvel in his Amsoil number 77 took off with the lead at the
start of the race with the KMC Wheels number 48 of Ricky Johnson
in second. LeDuc fell back holding onto third place. MacCachren
passed Leduc on turn one of lap two. LeDuc passed MacCachren
coming out of turn two. MacCachren went out of the race on lap
three due to mechanical failure. At the start of lap four Vanden
Heuvel and Johnson continued to battle it out for the lead.
Meanwhile LeDuc sat in third and the KMC Wheels sponsored number
28 of Alan Pflueger was in fourth. Johnson began to close the
gap on Vanden Huevel in working the inside line. Vanden Huevel
was able to hold Johnson off blocking him on every turn. The
mandatory caution came out on lap eight and the field was
bunched back up with the Amsoil sponsored number 77 of Vanden
Heuvel still in the lead. Jesse Jones had a left front flat
forcing him to go to the pits. Johnson in is Sway-A-Way
sponsored Pro 2 went to the outside line on the front stretch of
lap eleven attempting to pass Vanden Heuvel he was blocked and
forced into the inside wall. Rodrigo Ampudia spun around coming
off of the ski jump on lap 11, but was able to still stay in the
race. Meanwhile the battle continued between Vanden Heuvel and
Johnson out front. On lap thirteen LeDuc entered the mix
attempting to pass Johnson for second. LeDuc was blocked by
Johnson on turn three. Johnson continued on his hunt to pass
Vanden Heuvel, but got spun around on turn two of lap thirteen.
Johnson lost one position to LeDuc. Johnson was able to get the
spot back when he passed LeDuc on the inside of turn five.
Johnson in his KMC Wheels Ford fought hard to race down Vanden
Heuvel on the final lap. In the end it was a tight race with
Vanden Heuvel taking his first win of the season. Johnson came
in second and LeDuc finished third.
“I’m here to race and win. I am not here to make friends; I am
here for my sponsors and my family, and to race the hardest I
can. The LeDuc family has it out for me. It’s on!” said Johnson.
“Hats off to my crew they worked so hard on this truck to get me
back in the race. To bounce back from the season I had last
year. This win feels great I owe this one to my crew,” said
Vanden Heuvel. |

SUNDAY RACE RECAP - CHULA VISTA II
CHAD HORD RETURNS TO CORR WITH HIS FIRST PRO LITE WIN OF
2007 AND CARL RENEZEDER CELEBRATES HIS 55TH CORR WIN
Chula Vista, CA (Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007) – 14,000 fans showed
up to witness an exciting day of racing at the Chula Vista
International Raceway. A day filled with controversy and
passionate wins, Carl Renezeder took home a Pro 4 and Pro 2
win today. 2006 Pro Lite Champion Chad Hord took his first win
of 2007 and Champ Car Champion Paul Tracy had an eventful end
to his first attempt at short course dirt racing.
Scott Douglas driver of the number 7 Amsoil Pro 4 led the
field to green in the Jason Baldwin Memorial Cup Pro 4
Qualifier. Defending Pro 4 Champion Johnny Greaves in his
Monster Energy Drink Toyota started on the outside of row one.
Greaves took the inside line of turn two on lap one to take
the led. Douglas held onto second and Adrian “Wild Man” Cenni
sat in third, Rick Huseman was in fourth and Steve Barlow
rounded out the top five. Cenni passed Douglas across the
start/finish line to start lap three. Meanwhile Carl Renezeder
in his Lucas Oil Pro 4 sat near the back of the pack and was
forced to exit to the hot pits because his detached hood was
blocking his vision. Greaves continued to charge in front of
the field with Cenni in second and Huseman in third. Renezeder
returned to the race quickly on lap five, but was at the tail
end of the pack. Meanwhile up front Cenni and Huseman
continued to battle it out for second. Curt LeDuc in his
Skyjacker/Rockstar Energy Drink number 43 went to the hot pits
after his back right tire went flat. LeDuc was able to return
to the race on lap six. Huseman passed Cenni for the second
position on lap 7 of 15. Josh Baldwin in his number 86 Ford
had to go to the hot pits for repairs, but was able to return
to the track before the mandatory caution came out. Greaves
led the field when the race went green, Huseman in second and
Cenni in third. Greaves and Huseman were nose to nose heading
for the start/finish line on lap eleven. The three front
runners of Greaves, Huseman and Cenni continued to pull away
from the pack. On lap fourteen Cenni wrecked and rolled three
times coming off of the ski jump totaling his Pro 4. The
caution was brought out; Travis Coyne and Renezeder left the
race do to mechanical failure. The race went green with two
laps to go. In the end it was Greaves with the win, Huseman in
second and Ed Herbst driver of the number 55 taking third his
first podium of the season.
“Every time we crash we always seem to win, it was a great
race I knew me and Rick would run clean, I am thrilled to be
in the winners circle again,” said Greaves.
“I know we were having trouble with the throttle sticking, we
were down on power and I did everything I could do to hold
on,” said Cenni of his wreck.
Carl Renezeder in his Lucas Oil number 1 started on the pole
in the Lucas Oil Series Pro 2 Points race today. On turn two
of lap one Alan Pflueger in his KMC Wheels number 29 got
tangled up in the pack forcing him off the track. He was able
to continue in the race, but ended up in the back of the
field. On lap 3 of 15 it was Renezeder in the lead, Ricky
Johnson in his Sway-A Way number 48 in second and the Monster
Energy Drink sponsored number 41 of Jerry Whelchel in third.
Dan Vanden Huevel began to battle Whelchel for the third
position on lap 5 of 15. The mandatory caution came out on lap
8 it was Renezeder in first, Johnson in second, Whelchel in
third, Vanden Heuvel in fourth and Travis Coyne rounding out
the top five. Vanden Heuvel went up high on turn one
attempting to pass Whelchel. Then on turn two Vanden Heuvel
flipped and his truck caught on fire. The crew was able to put
the fire out and flip the truck over. Vanden Heuvel returned
to the race, starting towards the back of the field. When the
race went green again, Renezeder was in first and Johnson was
in second. Johnson attempted to pass Renezeder on the inside
line of turns two and three, but he was denied. Renezeder
continued to lead the field with two laps to go. In the end it
was Renezeder with the win, Johnson in second and Whelchel
rounding out the podium.
“I was trying a lot of different lines; Carl was really fast
yesterday and today,” said Johnson. “Dan Vanden Huevel took a
shot at me turning me around, and it was hard to get back up
to Carl after that. I am just tired of getting second place
trophies, congratulations to Carl he had a great race today,”
continued Johnson.
Rodrigo Ampudia in his Papas and Beers Monster Energy Drink
number 36 started on the pole in the Pro Lite Points race
today. Jeff Geiser passed Ampudia coming out of turn six on
lap one for the first position. Ampudia was able to get the
position back passing Geiser in turn one of lap two. Robert
Naughton in his Maxxis Tires number 54 held onto the third
positon fighting off the rest of the field. Meanwhile Ampudia
was able to extend his lead. Naughton was able to pass Geiser
on lap four for the second position. Chad Hord and Geiser
battled it out for the third position on lap five racing side
by side through turns one and two. Hord was able to pass
Naughton in the middle of turn two on lap 6 of 14. When the
mandatory caution came out on lap eight Ampudia led the field
with defending Pro Lite Champion Hord in second and Naughton
in third. When the race went green again Ampudia took off with
the lead. Naughton was passed for the third position by Geiser.
Hord attempted to pass Ampudia crossing the start/finish line
at the start of lap 10. Ampudia and Hord pulled away from the
field on lap 11. Hord continued his fight to pass Ampudia, but
Ampudia managed to block Hord. Hord passed Ampudia in turn two
of lap 12, Ampudia flipped over going into turn three. In the
end it was Hord with his first win of the 2007 season. Jeff
Huseman took second and Garit Wallace rounded out the podium.
Chad Hord was the winner of the $1,000 Bully Dog Hard Charger
award.
Carl Renezeder in his Lucas Oil number 17 started on the pole
in the Lucas Oil series Pro 4 point’s race today. Johnny
Greaves took off when the green flag dropped moving into the
first position. Renezeder sat in second and Curt LeDuc in his
Skyjacker/Rockstar Energy Drink number 43 held onto fourth.
Scott Douglas crashed hitting the barrier across the
start/finish line. Douglas went to the hot pits with a flat
tire. Paul Tracy and Tim Herbst got into one another at the
start of the restart after the yellow caution flag came out.
Greaves got passed by Renezeder after Greaves slowed down and
went off the track on turn one with a mechanical failure.
Renezeder continued to lead the pack with LeDuc and Troy
Herbst battling it out for second. Steve Barlow in his Red
Bull Energy Drink number 29 hung onto fourth place. Troy
Herbst in his Rockstar Energy Drink/ Terrible Herbst number 19
passed LeDuc putting himself in contention for first place.
Barlow ran in third and LeDuc fell to fourth place. The
mandatory caution came out on lap eight. Tracy was out of the
race on lap eight with mechanical failure from an earlier
wreck. Troy Herbst attempted a pass on turns two and three of
lap ten, but was denied by Renezeder. Troy Herbst also began
to get pressure from the number 29 of Barlow who sat in third.
Barlow passed Troy Herbst coming out of turn one on lap 11.
Renezeder continued to lead with Barlow and Troy Herbst
battling form behind with three laps to go. Barlow went to the
hot pits with two laps to go leaving Troy Herbst the second
position. Tim Herbst and Ed Herbst battled it out for the
third position while brother and fellow competitor Troy Herbst
remained in second behind Renezeder. In the end it was
Renezeder with the win. Troy Herbst finished second and Ed
Herbst rounded out the podium.
