NASCAR VETERAN ROBBY GORDON RETURNS TO CORR FOR NIGHT RACING
AND DEFENDING PRO 2 CHAMP CARL RENEZEDER SWEEPS THE PRO 2 RACES
- FRIDAY RACE RECAP-
(Friday, October 19, 2007)—Championship Off Road Racing raced
under the lights at the Texas Motor Speedway for the first time
tonight. The night was filled with excited fans, intense battles
and NASCAR veteran Robby Gordon. The emotions ran high among
drivers competing for the eight locked positions in the Pro 2
class for the Jason Baldwin Memorial Cup race held in Primm, NV.
Scott Taylor in his Skyjacker number 8 started on the pole in
the Pro 2 cup Qualifier tonight. Travis Coyne started on the
outside of row one. Jerry Whelchel in his Monster Energy Drink
number 41 passed Coyne for second place in turn two of lap one.
Rob MacCachren soon followed Whelchel passing Coyne for third.
Next MacCachren set his eyes for the second position. MacCachren
battled against Whelchel for second. Meanwhile guest driver
Robby Gordon in his Monster Energy Drink number 71 held onto the
fifth position. Taylor who was leading the race had a mechanical
failure forcing him to exit the track on lap 10 of 22. The
mandatory caution came out on lap 10. MacCachren in his Red Bull
Energy Drink number 29 led the field to green. Ricky Johnson
spun in turn two of lap 13. Johnson fell from fourth position to
tenth once he got back into the race. The number 34 of Rob
Martenson wrecked catching his truck on fire bringing out a
caution. Gordon sat in second behind race leader MacCachren when
the field went green. Gordon made a pass on turn one to take the
lead. Renezeder secured second passing MacCachren in turn two.
Renezeder was on the bumper of Gordon, Renezeder made the pass
on turn three. The track went to a full course yellow when
Gordon who was in the lead was flipped in turn four. When the
race went green Whelchel was turned in turn four by Johnson on
lap 20 of 22. End the end it was Renezeder in his Lucas Oil
number 1 with the win, MacCachren in his Red Bull number 29 with
second and Greg Adler rounds out the podium in his 4 Wheel Parts
number 10.
The number 7 Amsoil sponsored Pro 4 of Scott Douglas led the
field to green at the start of the Lucas Oil Series Pro 4
point’s race. The field was three wide going into turn three of
lap one, the number 86 of Josh Baldwin, number 5 of Travis Coyne
and number 7 of Douglas battled it out for the lead position.
Douglas continued to hold on the lead starting lap two. Baldwin
came up to battle Coyne on turn three of lap 4 for second.
Baldwin attempted again, but was denied going into turn four.
Baldwin in his Toyo Tires Ford made the pass on turn three of
lap 6 for the second position. Johnny Greaves in his Potawatomi/Monster
Energy Drink number 22 made a move to pass Baldwin going into
turn 3. Baldwin made the pass on the front stretch going into
turn 4. Point’s leader Carl Renezeder went out of the race when
his broke his front suspension in a collision with Rick Huseman.
The mandatory yellow came out on lap 10. Greaves left rear tire
went flat, forcing him to go to the hot pits. Douglas led the
field to green at the start of lap 12. Baldwin got blocked for
the second position by Huseman in turn 4 of lap 12. At the start
of lap 14 Douglas led the field in his Amsoil number 7. Huseman
held onto second with Troy Herbst in third. Troy Herbst passed
Huseman in turn two of lap 15 when he broke his rear suspension.
Curt LeDuc was black flagged and disqualified on lap 16 when he
did not listen to track officials after he was issued a penalty.
Coyne had his right rear tire go flat sending him to the pits on
lap 21 of 22. When the checkered flag was waved Douglas took the
win, Troy Herbst took second and Greaves finished third.
Robert Naughton in his Maxxis/ Ready Lift Suspension Pro Lite
led the field to green in the Pro Lite Point’s race tonight.
Rodrigo Ampudia in his Papas and Beers/Monster Energy Drink
number 36 held on to second with Marty Hart close behind in
third. The field was stretch out by lap four with Naughton
taking a commanding lead. Jeff Huseman sat in fourth and Kyle
LeDuc in his Rockstar Energy Drink Ford rounded out the top
five. The mandatory caution came out on lap nine with Naughton
controlling the lead. LeDuc went off the track coming out of
turn three. LeDuc stayed in the race, but fell back to the ninth
position. Ampudia attempted to get up next to Naughton for
second only to be passed on the outside by Hart on turn two.
Ampudia spun Hart around coming out of turn three. When the race
was finished it was Naughton with the win, Ampudia placing
second and Casey Currie in his Bully Dog Nissan rounding out the
podium.
Scott Taylor led the field at the start of the Lucas Oil Series
Pro 2 Points race tonight. MacCachren passed Whelchel in turn
four of lap one. Todd LeDuc, Dan Vanden Heuvel and Travis Coyne
each spun out in the first few laps of the race. MacCachren
attempted a move for the first position going to the inside to
start lap four. MacCachren spun around in turn three giving the
second position to Ricky Johnson. Johnson and MacCachren battled
it out for first position as the mandatory caution came out on
lap 10. Taylor wrecked on lap 11 forcing him to go to the hot
pits. Carl Renezeder led the field when the race went green
MacCachren in second and Adler ran in third on lap 15 of 22.
Point’s leader Whelchel sat back in eighth with NASCAR veteran
Robby Gordon in seventh. Gordon spun coming out of turn four on
lap 19. LeDuc and Johnson battled it out for the fourth position
in turn three of lap 19. Johnson prevailed over LeDuc and
charged forward to pass Adler on turn three of lap 20. Meanwhile
Renezeder continued to lead the field with MacCachren in his Red
Bull number 29 close behind. Johnson caught on fire coming out
of turn two. In the end it was Renezeder with the win,
MacCachren took second and LeDuc rounded out the podium.
The excitement continues tomorrow at the Texas Motor Speedway.
Gates open at 2 PM and the main event starts at 7 PM.

Championship Off Road Racing had a successful second evening
in the Lone Star State. Carl Renezeder took home another win
in Pro 2 series, while Johnny Greaves secured another win in
Pro 4. The battles will heat up next at the CORR 2007 season
finale in Primm, Nevada. Championships will be determined and
Pro 2’s and Pro 4’s will race in the biggest race of the
season, the Jason Baldwin Memorial Cup. With the purse prize
of 66,000 on the line it’s sure to be an exciting finale to a
thrilling season.

Johnny Greaves in his
Potawatomi/ Monster Energy Drink Toyota led the field at the
start of the Pro 4 Baldwin Cup Qualifier. Rick Huseman sat in
second and Coyne ran in third. Pro 4 champ Carl Renezeder in
his Lucas Oil number 17 picked up two positions on lap four
putting him in the sixth position. Greaves began to pull away
form the field on lap 5 of 22. Travis Coyne wrecked going into
turn three on lap eight. The competition caution came out on
lap 11. Greaves lost his motor and was unable to return to
the race. Huseman assumed the race lead Douglas sat in second
and Curt LeDuc followed in third. Josh Baldwin spun out in
turn one putting him into the seventh position. Barlow got
into LeDuc turning him around in turn 4 on lap 19. Meanwhile
Huseman continued to lead the field. In the end it was Huseman
with the win, Renezeder in second and Douglas rounded out the
podium.

“I don’t know maybe we hurt
the motor in qualifying we checked it and it seemed strong
before we took the track. It’s sad when you’re running out
front and then you loose your motor, these guys working on
this Monster Energy truck worked really hard, I have to thank
them,” said Greaves

with my whole family from Texas out here to witness and
support me. This win is an awesome win,” said Huseman

“I was not over anxious we
had a fast truck. I was faster then Curt, I wasn’t trying to
get into Curt. I was racing tight with Renezeder and Curt was
there. The black flag wasn’t fair we are going to try to
protest this and see if we can get anything out of it if we
can’t we will just have to go to Vegas and win the last chance
qualifier,” said Barlow.

Rob MacCachren in his Red
Bull Energy Drink Pro 2 led the field at the start of the Pro
2 Lucas Oil Points race. Jerry Whelchel in his Monster Energy
Drink number 41 passed MacCachren for the lead in turn 4 of
lap 2, a pile up accured in turn four. Whelchel was able to
take off with the lead again. Carl Renezeder sat in second
and Robby Gordon followed in third. Renezeder passed Whelchel
on lap 8. The competition caution came out on lap 11.
Renezeder took off with the lead again when the race went
green. Pflueger went to the outside of Taylor to run fourth.
Going into turn 4 on lap 15 Gordon was caught in a pile up
forcing him back to the sixth position. Gordon got hit again
in turn 2 on lap 16. Gordon and Taylor went to the hot pits
on lap 17. Meanwhile Renezeder stretched out his lead, while
Whelchel sat in second. A battle broke out between Ricky
Johnson and Alan Pflueger for the third position. Johnson
passed Pflueger in turn two of lap 20. Johnson went to the
hot pits on lap 21 leaving Pflueger with the third position.
In the end it was Renezeder with the win, Whelchel in second
and Pflueger rounding out the podium.

“We want to control our
destiny by going out there and winning, we are going to take
home this Championship in Primm,” said Renezeder.

“We are going to Primm with a
sixteen point lead over Carl. I want to thank my team at Wide
Open they have worked so hard, thanks to Monster and all my
sponsors we will take home this Championship,” said Whelchel.

throughout the good times and bad times. I am really glad
Jerry and I had a clean race, it was a lot of fun I am really
excited to be up here on the podium,” said Pflueger.

Jeff Huseman led the field to
green at the start of the Pro Lite Points race tonight. The
race was restarted after a collision on turn two of lap 1
involving Marty Hart and Rodrigo Ampudia. Marty Hart wasn’t
able to return to the race do to mechanical failure. When the
race was restarted Huseman led the field to green. Robert
Naughton in his Maxxis Tires/Ready Lift Suspension number 54
made the pass for the first position coming out of turn two.
Huseman lost control coming out of turn three allowing Ampudia
in his Papas and Beers number 36 space to pass on the
outside. Ampudia got side by side crossing the start finish
line and passed Naughton going into turn one of lap 9. The
mandatory caution came out on lap 11. When the field went
green Ampudia was in the led, Naughton in second and Garit
Wallace hung onto third. There was a collision going into
turn four on lap 14 putting Wallace towards the back. Ampudia
went of the track with a blown motor on lap 16 of 20. Out
front Naughton and Huseman battled it out for the first
position. Kyle LeDuc ran in third and Casey Currie hung onto
fourth. Huseman spun out in turn one on lap 19. Naughton
remained in the lead with LeDuc in second. Huseman and Currie
battled it out for third with Wallace holding onto fourth. In
the end it was Naughton with the win, LeDuc in second and
Huseman rounding out the podium.

Johnny Greaves led the field
to green at the start of the Lucas Oil Pro 4 Points race
tonight. Rick Huseman in his Fabtech number 36 was spun
around in turn two. When the race was restarted Greaves took
off with the lead. Rick Huseman, Travis Coyne and Greaves went
three wide coming out of turn 2 on the first lap. Greaves
held onto the lead with Huseman in second and Coyne hanging
onto third. A heated battle broke out between Coyne, Huseman
and Renezeder for the second position. The three swapped
positions through laps 4 and 5. Greaves continued to extend
his lead. Coyne held onto second with Renezeder on his
bumper. Coyne began to reel in Greaves. Coyne attempted to
pass Greaves going into turn 4 on lap 10, but spun around
colliding into Renezeder. The competition caution came out on
lap 11. When the race went green Greaves continued to lead
with Coyne on his bumper and Renezeder in third. The three
front runners continued to battle it out. Greaves started to
stretch his lead out on lap 20. In the end it was Greaves with
the win, Coyne in his Pro Comp number 5 in second and
Renezeder rounded out the podium.
