Douglas Motorsports Podiums Pomona Twice in CORR Opener
-
El
Cajon, CA (April 30, 2008) – The crew at Douglas Motorsports was really
looking forward to finally compete against other PRO-4 trucks. The team
had built a brand new Bill Smith designed and fabricated chassis for the
2008 season. Scott and Bill were confident that the team would have a
strong start to the CORR race season.
The .74 mile track, designed by CORR president, Jim Baldwin, was a fan
friendly version of a race through Baja. Not only did it have its share
of whoops, jumps, and elevation changes, but a section of actual asphalt
was added to the mix. The track was a true test of man and machine.
Saturday, Round One – SPEED TV
The truck was completed almost two months before the CORR opener in
Pomona, so Scott and the team tested and tested and tested. When
qualifying for the opening rounds of racing started, it was no surprise
to the team that they were second quickest grabbing the outside spot of
the front row.
When the green flag was dropped, the pole sitter, Renezeder, grabbed the
lead with the #7 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Sycuan Casino Ford F-150 in second.
With one lap before the mandatory yellow lap, Scott tried a new line
through the whoop section which moved him into third place. The final
seven laps the top three stayed close but never changed positions. At
the flag, Scott Douglas finished in third place.
-
As Scott climbed out of the #7 Ford, everyone could see the grin on his
face. “Getting on the podium the first time out is awesome,” commented
Scott Douglas. “We didn’t use up the tires, the Fox Racing Shox equipped
Bill Smith designed suspension was spot on. I can’t say enough about my
crew. We will go back and make a slight gear change to gain some speed
in the whoops for tomorrow’s race. What a great way to start the
season.”
Team Coordinator, and Scott’s wife, Jackie Douglas, exclaimed, “It sure
beats the way we started out last year!”
-
This was in reference to a horrific crash in Lancaster that practically
destroyed his race truck during the first round of racing in 2007.
Sunday, Round Two – NBC Sports
Scott went out for the combined practice and qualifying with only a
slight gear change to the truck’s setup. The entire package was working
very well together. Scott stopped the clocks in second place, just .018
seconds behind the pole sitter. Once again the #7 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Ford
F-150 was starting on the front row.
Round Two was one of the most exciting PRO-4 races in recent memory.
Scott battled with the top performers of PRO-4. He and Renezeder seemed
to drag race each other down the pavement lap after lap, swapping
positions back and forth. The racing was tight and clean. At the
checkered flag Scott Douglas stood on the podium in third place.
Afterwards Scott was still smiling.
-
“This new PRO-FAB built truck is incredible,” exclaimed Scott Douglas.
“To be standing on the podium twice this weekend is a testament to my
crew and all my supporters. Bill Smith really designed an awesome
chassis. Jason Schampers and the crew assembled a solid truck. AMSOIL
keeps our engine and driveline performing at their peak, the Kumho Tires
continue to keep us up front, and the Fox Racing Shox really makes our
chassis handle the ever changing track conditions. It was so much fun
this weekend. When the checkered flag came out, I wanted to keep going.
The competition was close and everyone raced each other clean. Rick,
Carl, and I we gave each other room to race and we put on a great show
for the fans.”
