Douglas Motorsports Takes the PRO-4 Point Lead with a Win @ Pomona

El Cajon, CA (August 19, 2008) - Douglas Motorsports came to The
Fairplex in Pomona, California with its eye on the prize, the 2008
CORR PRO-4 Championship. With two-thirds of the season complete, the
team has grabbed the championship lead. Douglas Motorsports has
combined qualifying, near or at the top of the charts all season, and
consistent podium finishes, to take the lead, over second place, Carl
Renezeder.

Rounds Nine and Ten of the CORR season were held for third, and final
time this year in Pomona, California. This man-made “Chunk of Baja”
includes a section of pavement along with all the dirt turns, jumps
and bumps which really causes havoc with the tire manufacturers. To
finish well in Pomona, you have to run fast without burning up your
tires on the asphalt. The drivers that take care of their tires in the
first half of the race are usually the ones up front at the finish.
Scott Douglas understands the concept very well, as he has finished on
the podium in the previous four rounds of racing held at The Fairplex.
The Saturday morning track officials gave each class a timed eight lap
practice/qualifying session. Each truck’s fastest recorded lap would
be their qualifying time. The luck of the draw put Douglas Motorsports
out first, on the freshly watered and slippery track. Scott Douglas
and the #7 AMSOIL Sycuan Casino Kumho Tire Ford F-150 qualified fourth
fastest with a lap time of 50.668. The top six PRO-4 qualifiers were
all within one second of each other.
Round 9
When the green flag fell, the sixteen truck field headed for Turn One.
The #7 AMSOIL Kumho Ford came out Turn Two in fifth place, just behind
#86 Baldwin. On lap three, Scott made the move around Baldwin for
fourth place. The Sycuan Casino #7 held that spot until lap nine when
#1 Renezeder was black flagged for rough driving, moving Scott into
the third position.
The top three trucks, #4 Greaves, #99 K. LeDuc, and #7 Douglas, were
fender to fender for several laps as the racing seemed to be getting
more aggressive. All three drivers had contact with each other, and
then another black flag appeared. This time it was for Scott, for the
contact with #4 Greaves. The stop and go penalty put the #7 AMSOIL
Ford back to tenth place, with just three laps to go. Once back on the
track, Scott made up three positions on the track before the checkered
flag was dropped. At the finish line, Scott Douglas came home in
seventh place.
The next morning Bill Smith and crew, fine tuned the Fox Shox setup,
looking for that extra competitive advantage to put the #7 on top.
Scott Douglas put on a show, as he qualified number one, with a time
of 49.801 seconds. This was a half second quicker than the number two
qualifier, and the only lap recorded under 50 seconds.
Round 10
The start saw Scott slide back into fifth place as several competitors
in front of him were really leaning on each other. The racing in the
top three spots was very aggressive. A few black flags were given out
for rough driving, moving a couple of competitors in and out of the
top three positions. After receiving a black flag the day before,
Scott knew what kind of contact the race official would tolerate. Then
on lap fifteen, as the #7 AMSOIL Sycuan Casino Kumho Tire Ford-F-150
avoided all the mayhem and worked its way into second place behind #99
Kyle LeDuc. Then LeDuc broke an axle slowing his progress, making way
for Scott Douglas to take over the lead. The final three laps Scott
was unchallenged and came home victorious, over four seconds ahead of
second place. This is Douglas Motorsports’ second victory of the year.
After the weekend action, Scott Douglas now leads the 2008 CORR PRO-4
standings, ahead of Carl Renezeder.
With five rounds of racing still to come, Douglas Motorsports will
push even harder to capture the PRO-4 Championship title.
The next race on the schedule for Douglas Motorsports is the WSORR
BorgWarner Off-Road World Championships, August 29-31, in Crandon,
Wisconsin.
Scott Douglas is looking to become a three time winner of the
prestigious BorgWarner Cup at the traditional Labor Day weekend event.
Scott has won the event in 2006 and 1997.
The next Championship Off-Road Racing event is September 13-14 in
Chula Vista, California.
