Hoek Sweeps Pro-Spec, Finishes Tenth Pro-2 Overall on Sunday !
-

Holland, MI (May19, 2008) - Ross Hoek Motorsports traveled to Primm,
Nevada for rounds 3 and 4 of the 2008 Championship Off-Road Racing
season. Along with the support of Suspensions Unlimited, Ross was
looking to improve on his performance in the second weekend of CORR
PRO-Spec competition. The two wheel drive race truck is based upon the
PRO-2 standardized chassis with a higher minimum weight requirement and
is powered by a Turnkey Engine Supply sealed fuel injected General
Motors LS7 powerplant.
The first weekend of competition in Pomona, the three PRO-Spec trucks
that entered, faired well, but new truck bugs prevented the off-road
racing community from seeing their true potential.
Saturday
Once again the PRO-Spec trucks qualified and raced at the same time as
the PRO-2 competitors. The horsepower and weight disadvantage put Ross
near the back of the field. When the green flag dropped, the race
immediately became a fight for survival. There was contact everywhere by
just about everyone. Ross Hoek and his #18s Suspension Unlimited
BFGoodrich Tire #18s grabbed the class lead and began battling several
PRO-2 competitors.
When the checkered flag fell, Ross won his class and finished eleventh
overall in the twenty eight truck field.
“Today was a true race of survival,” commented Ross Hoek. “I narrowly
missed five or six wrecks that happened in front of me.” Most of the
race we were able to battle with some of the PRO-2s. The torque and
power range of this package is very easy to drive and is a lot of fun.
My goal tomorrow is to finish in the Top Ten.”
Sunday
Once again, Ross started in the back of the PRO-2/PRO-Spec field. After
some stern words from CORR president, Jim Baldwin, Sunday’s program was
more about racing, and less about banging and slamming into one another.
Once again Ross Hoek was the first PRO-Spec to cross the finish line. In
fact his performance put him tenth overall in Sunday’s race.
“I think we showed everyone that PRO-Spec can be an affordable way to
race a full size truck that will prepare you for the next level without
the expense that’s associated with PRO-2 or PRO-4,” stated Ross Hoek.
“The truck is a fast package, our laps times kept us on the lead lap
both days. This experience also gives me the confidence that my rehab,
after breaking my foot in a race in Bark River, last August, is
complete. I really have the confidence now to attack the track again.
This prepared me for the upcoming World Series of Off-Road Racing Series
PRO-2WD Championship that begins in a couple of weeks.”
Hoek’s next race is under the lights at the World Series of Off-Road
Racing season opener at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri,
May 31.
Don’t forget to watch NBC Sports, May 25, 1:30pm eastern time, for the
ninety minute CORR broadcast of round 2 from Pomona.
Ross Hoek would like to thanks all his sponsors of his CORR PRO-Spec
truck, including:
