Taylor Has Solid Performance in Pomona – Heads to Crandon for Chairman’s Cup
June 10, 2008 (Belvidere, IL) - Scott Taylor and the #8 Skyjacker Suspensions Wernimont Designs Roush Performance BFGoodrich Tires Ford F-150 headed back to Pomona looking to get back to his “championship style” form. The two rounds of racing in Primm were hard on the team, as mechanical failure and heavy contact from another competitor, put Taylor Racing back in the pack of the Championship standings. Saturday morning saw Scott take to the track for Round 5 qualifying. The chassis setup Russ Wernimont and Mike Kasch put under the truck really made the #8 Ford F-150 come alive. The session had Scott qualify third fastest out of the twenty six PRO-2 trucks entered. The start of Round 5 saw the top six qualifiers inverted in the starting grid. This put Scott on the outside of row two at the rolling start. The race itself saw Scott Taylor running hard with the likes of Greaves, MacCachern, Johnson, and Renezeder. At the competition yellow, Scott was in fourth place. With two laps to go, Scott and MacCachern got into one another, allowing McGrath to move up a couple of positions. At the finish, Scott Taylor crossed the line in fifth place. Sunday morning, Mike Kasch was lining up the #8 Skyjacker Ford for qualifying when he realized the power steering wasn’t working. Quickly Mike and the crew carefully replaced the steering unit with plenty of time to spare. Scott Taylor qualified fifth fastest for Round Six. The starting grid for Sunday’s race saw the top eight qualifiers inverted. This put Scott again on the outside of row two. The first half of the race saw the Scott Taylor fend off the repeated moves of Renezeder, as he attempted to catch the leader, Todd LeDuc. At the yellow, the #8 Skyjacker Suspensions Wernimont Designs Roush Performance Justice Brothers BFGoodrich Tires Ford F-150 was in second place. During competition yellow, CORR officials watered the track, creating a slippery condition on much of the track. When green flag racing resumed, Renezeder continued to battle Scott for the second spot. Then on lap twelve, Scott almost spun out on the pavement section going through Turns One and Two. This opened the door for Johnson and Whelchel to get by. The finishing order in Round 6 was 1st – Todd LeDuc, 2nd – Ricky Johnson, 3rd –Jerry Whelchel, and 4th – Scott Taylor.
“We are getting closer,” exclaimed Scott Taylor. “I know the weekend we had in Primm put us back a bit in the points, but the way Russ, Mike and the team are working together, we will be leading one of these very soon and land on that podium. Thanks also to Taylor, Anthony, and Travis; these guys really do a great job prepping the Skyjacker Ford F-150. This weekend my crew told me to concentrate on racing and they would take care of the truck. They gave me the best race truck possible and it showed. Great job guys.”
After completing six rounds of racing in the CORR PRO-2 Championship, Scott Taylor resides in eighth place out of twenty seven competitors. Next CORR race for Taylor Racing is July 26-27 at “THE QUARRY” in Chula Vista, California.
