Heber, California (February 19, 2008) – After two days of hard fought
competition for rights to be named the first winner of the KMC
TROPHYLITE Series presented by KC HiLiTES, Orange County residents Logan
Knecht and Billy Worthing along with their Lone Kid Racing crew
prevailed. After an intense battle that saw TROPHYLITE competitors
battle door to door, Worthing and Knecht were able to hold their lead
that they had gained from the first day of racing to beat the team of
racing veterans Ricky Johnson and Steve Barlow at the SNORE Battle at
Primm.
On each day of racing, TROPHYLITE competitors started two by two which
provided excitement as TROPHYLITE competitors came through on the first
lap nose to tail on both days of competition. On Saturday, Knecht and
Worthing battled Steve Barlow throughout the day. They were never
separated by more than ten seconds until a slow final lap by Barlow gave
Knecht and Worthing a three minute lead. TROPHYLITE competitor and
supercross prospect Matt Armstrong, racing in his first off-road race in
a four wheel vehicle wound up third and set fast lap time for the
weekend.
On the second day of competition, Knecht and Worthing looked to hold
their lead over Ricky Johnson, taking over for Steve Barlow. As the race
began to unfold, buggy veteran Gary Messer took the lead until a flat
tire slowed his progress and relegated him down the order. Ricky Johnson
was racing hard trying to make up time on Knecht and Worthing, who were
temporarily slowed after rear ending a stopped race vehicle in the
blinding silt that was prevalent throughout the track. When the
checkered flag fell, Worthing and Knecht held their lead from the
previous day.
TROPHYLITE CEO Matt Scaroni summed up the weekend by commenting “The
first round of the KMC TROPHYLITE Series presented by KC HiLiTES had the
aspiring motocross racer battling the motocross champion who was
battling the veteran buggy racer who was battling the husband and wife
team who were all battling the two father-son teams. There is a place
for everyone in TROPHYLITE and we are pleased with how the first round
went. Things will only get better from here.”
With results from the Round #1, Knecht/Worthing have a strong points
lead over the rest of the field in the battle to become the first
TROPHYLITE Champion.
