SPEED Prime Time TV Package Expands
for Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing
CRANDON, WI -- The Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing (WSORR)
has announced it has secured six hours of prime time coverage on
SPEED TV during the 2007 season exclusively for its SRT racing
division. Selected SRT classes, commonly referred to as semi-pro
or sportsman, will now be featured on SPEED TV alongside three
popular, fan favorite Professional 4x4 and 2-wheel drive race
pickup truck classes.
-
The programming is in addition to the previously announced three
year (2007-2009) prime time WSORR television package on SPEED. The
six hours are comprised of three original one hour prime time
episodes and one prime time repeat.
-
"Speed TV reaches some 73 million households across the country
and this is a tremendous opportunity for us to showcase our very
competitive SRT racers and their sponsors," said Doug Davis,
president and general manager, WSORR. "We have been working on
adding this additional TV coverage since the inception of our
Series and thanks to the efforts between Lucas Oil and SPEED, we
are pleased to be able to announce it nearly four months in
advance of our season opener in Owatonna, MN, May 19-20," he
added.
-
The key race class targeted for the bonus SPEED coverage includes
the SRT Super Truck Class, one of the most competitive off-road
pickup truck classes on dirt. Other classes expected to receive
limited coverage include Super Buggy and Stock Truck classes. "The
action in the SRT Super Truck class is phenomenal where any driver
is a threat to win at any time," said Davis. "It is high drama
every time the class takes to the track and will make for
outstanding television," he said.
-
"The response to the exciting Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road
Racing has been outstanding and so we have been looking at ways to
broaden the television coverage with special programming," said
Jamie Devney, motorsports business manager, Lucas Oil Products.
"In many cases, the racers featured in the SRT division are the
stars of tomorrow -- the next Carl Renezeder, the next Chad Hord,
the next Johnny Greaves, the next Scott Douglas," he commented,
ticking off a list current off-road racing super stars.
California-based Renezeder is a Professional 2WD Series champion
and DIRTsports Magazine 2006 Driver of the Year. Chad Hord, racing
out of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, is the Professional Lite Pickup
champion. Wisconsin's Johnny Greaves is a popular and perennial
Pro 4x4 champion driver, Series champion and 2006 FCP Chairman's
Cup Challenge race winner, while Scott Douglas, El Cajon, CA, is
one of the most veteran names on the circuit and the reigning 2006
BorgWarner Shootout champion and Professional 4x4 World Champion.
-
"Lucas Oil has always supported the sportsman or semi-pro levels
of racing and prime time television coverage is a chance to help
these racers build their programs through marketing and
sponsorship opportunities," added Devney. "WSORR has shown itself
to be a forward-thinking sanctioning body with major TV exposure,
increased racer purses, new event venues, a first class
contingency program and an orientation for results," he said.
-
The SRT division races will air in the same weekend prime time
slots as the WSORR professional races with re-airs to occur during
weekday prime time hours.
-
"Prime time coverage is a first for our sport and will expose many
new fans to the thrills, spills and aggressive speed of WSORR-style
racing," said Davis.
-
Davis added that the World Series, working with Lucas Oil, will
continue to seek out creative TV packaging and programming to
continuously broaden interest in WSORR and meet the needs of
sponsors, racers and fans.
-
The innovative Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing is a
national short-course off-road racing body featuring the country's
foremost off-road racers participating from all regions of the
country including the Midwest, South, East and West. The Series
features seven weekend race dates and 14 rounds of racing in 2007.
-
Three divisions and 11 off-road racing classes make the World
Series the largest off-road sanctioning body of its type in the
nation. More information about the World Series is available on
