WSORR CONTINUES $100,000 RACE PURSES IN 2008
CRANDON, WI April 29, 2008 -- The Lucas Oil World Series of
Off-Road Racing® continues its groundbreaking payback formula for
racers in 2008. The announced payback guarantees racers across
nine classes a $100,000 available cash purse at every weekend
event of WSORR Tour 2008.
“Thanks to the generosity of our presenting sponsor -- the Forest
County Potawatomi -- we are once again able to provide tremendous
financial incentive for race teams to compete at WSORR events,”
said Jake Flannery, WSORR vice-president and race steward. “Last
season we paid out a record-breaking $850,000 to our drivers
making WSORR the place to race for cash and we will follow a
similar payback schedule for 2008,” Flannery added.
Flannery noted that extremely low entry fees combined with high
purses and big money Cup racing are all part of WSORR’s operating
philosophy to grow off-road racing in the Midwest.
WSORR payback includes the top ten finishers in each class.
Highlights of the payback schedule include $22,000 each weekend in
the PRO 4x4 class, $18,000 per weekend in the PRO 2WD class and
$14,000 per weekend for the PRO Light Pickup class. Daily race
winners in WSORR’s newly anointed PRO Super Buggy class are
awarded $1,620 for taking the checkers. Added to this are
contingency awards from various manufacturers and suppliers.
World Series racers enjoyed huge payouts last season in every
class. Leading PRO racers earned upwards of $65,000. The red-hot
battle for the PRO Light Pickup season championship was also a
race to the bank as Series champion Chad Hord, of Felch, Mich.,
and runner-up Jeff Kincaid, of Argonne, Wisc., each collected in
excess of $25,000. With contingency, these racers earned far
greater financial rewards.
The World Series SRT division continues to share in the wealth,
with a SRT Super Stock Truck winner’s check of $1,500 per race and
a Stock Truck first place check of $1,200. In fact, two of last
season’s SRT champions enjoyed record-setting “Sportsman” season
payouts as SRT Super Truck champion Ben Wandahsega of Bark River,
Mich., collected more than $30,000 of WSORR winnings and Scott
Beauchamp, of Escanaba, Mich., took home more than $25,000.
WSORR (WSORR.com) features 12 rounds of off-road racing this
season for classes ranging from professional off-road pickup truck
racers to sportsman buggy racers. The Series continues a tradition
of off-road racing in the Midwest that spans 39 years. The 2008
off-road racing campaign, to be broadcast again on SPEED TV, opens
May 31-June 1 at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo. (lucasoilspeedway.com).
