FORMER WORLD SERIES MVP IS GRAND MARSHAL OF WSORR OWATONNA OPENER

OWATONNA, Minn. -- Jack Morris, former Minnesota Twins and Detroit
Tigers baseball great, will jump start The Lucas Oil World Series of
Off-Road Racing season with “Gentlemen, start your engines!” at the
Owatonna Off-Road Nationals, May 19th at the Steele County
Fairgrounds.

Morris was known as baseball’s most dominating pitcher of the late
1980’s and was a five-time all-star while amassing 254 big league
wins. He led the Detroit Tigers to a World Series championship in
1984 and was named MVP of the 1991 World Series as he led his
hometown Minnesota Twins to a thrilling seven game title over the
Atlanta Braves.
“Jack Morris is a sports’ living legend in Minnesota and also
happens to be a real car and truck lover,” said Owatonna Off-Road
Nationals Promoter Don Williams. “His name will forever be linked
with baseball’s ‘World Series’ so it seemed appropriate he is on
hand to launch the World Series of Off-Road Racing and the
first-ever national short-course race in our State. Jack will serve
as grand marshal and help us fire up the trucks for the first race
on Saturday and be available to sign some autographs for off-road
and baseball fans who come to the fairgrounds to watch the big
show,” Williams added.
“I love fast cars and trucks but Don tells me I’ve never seen
anything like this before,” says Morris. “These 800 horsepower
trucks are going to go flying around this track with jumps and bumps
and I’ve been told these drivers go fender-to-fender for the whole
race, I can hardly wait,” he added.
Morris’s appearance will be documented by the SPEED TV cameras on
hand to broadcast the WSORR event for prime time viewing later in
the year as part of the series comprehensive television package.
Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing features truck and buggy
classes from entry level to PRO performers. Racing will take place
at the Steele County Fairgrounds on May 19-20, starting at 11 AM
both days. Pits are open to fans and in addition to the race action,
key light-duty truck manufacturers will be displaying vehicles,
among a variety of other vendors and exhibits.
Other key sponsors for the Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing
include the Forest County Potawatomi, Nissan, BorgWarner, Toyo
Tires, KC HiLites, Skyjacker, among others. More information about
