Safe Racing Mark WSORR Opener
CRANDON, Wis. -- Record purse payouts, exciting racing across all
classes and color commentary for SPEED television by NASCAR’s
Brendan Gaughan marked the first ever Lucas Oil World Series of
Off-Road Racing (WSORR) event at Owatonna, Minn.
“Lucas Oil Products was very, very pleased with this inaugural race
by the World Series,” said Bob Patison, executive vice president,
Lucas Oil. “A grand total of 262 racers took the green flag over the
two days of racing,” he said. “That is fantastic and we are glad so
many racers experienced the excitement of WSORR competition. We
captured some outstanding racing for SPEED TV,” he commented.
“Lucas Oil is supporting WSORR for the long haul as they make a
concerted effort to improve off-road racing, make competition fair
and exciting and evaluate and implement potential new classes,” said
Patison.
The big WSORR weekend purse winner was Mike Oberg, PRO 4x4 class,
who earned $8,100 for Scott Douglas Motorsports. Oberg nabbed
another $3,300 from PRO 2WD action earning a grand total of $11,400
for the weekend. Excluded in these figures is Oberg’s portion of a
record $1.6 million WSORR contingency program. Other racers cashing
in large over the weekend include:
· Scott Taylor, PRO 2WD class ($6,600)
· Kent Brascho, PRO 4x4 ($4,860)
· Marty Hart, PRO Light Pickup class ($3,360)
· Kevin Probst, PRO 2WD class ($3,300)

pocketed a paycheck from the weekend action. Besides Hart, racers
Jeff Kincaid and Steve Federico took home $2,100 and $1,680
respectively.
On hand at Owatonna with NeWave TV Productions, producer of WSORR
races for SPEED TV, was Brendan Gaughan, current NASCAR racer and
former World Champion off-road racer. “It was great to be in
Owatonna and visit again with many familiar faces and drivers and
meet new ones,” said Gaughan. “I look forward to being at the next
WSORR event at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway June 23-24 and
reporting on all the action at off-road racing’s greatest track,” he
said.
“I know all WSORR racers appreciate the outstanding support of our
primary and official sponsors such as Lucas Oil, Forest County
Potawatomi, Nissan, BorgWarner and United Trailers,” said Doug
Davis, general manager, WSORR. “The World Series of Off-Road Racing
is successfully launched and we are glad to be part of the
motorsports scene,” he said.
WSORR race action continues with the annual Forest County Potawatomi
Brush Run Races presented by Herculiner June 23-24 at Crandon
Raceway. Off-road racing scheduled for Lake Odessa, Mich., was
postponed and schedule adjustments are being evaluated and will be
announced.
