TIGHT CLASS BATTLES AND HOMETOWN
HEROES MARK WSORR ROUNDS V & VI
BARK RIVER, MI - It is truly “tight at the top” as the Lucas Oil
World Series of Off-Road Racing (WSORR) has eight of its 11 race
classes in a close points battle with first and second in each class
separated by less than eight points. Key class battles will be
pushed into the spotlight as a number of local racers will be crowd
favorites for WSORR Rounds V & VI. Race Series action moves to the
Bark River International Raceway as the Island Resort and Casino
presents the BOSS Snowplows Off-Road Shootout on July 13-15.
Chad Hord of nearby Felch, Mich., has his BOSS Snowplows Lucas Oil
Kumho Nissan Frontier only two points out of the top spot in the
very competitive PRO Light Pickup class coming off a Round IV win at
Crandon Raceway. He and rival Jeff Kincaid, in his Potawatomi BFG
Toyota, are tied in the second spot behind class newcomer Marty Hart
in his Maxxis Ford. Hord is the defending class champion and Kincaid
has won two of the four WSORR rounds of racing this season.
The two other PRO points battles are also close. Mike Oberg driving
an Amsoil Kumho Chevrolet leads the PRO 2WD class by just a single
point over Scott Taylor in his Skyjacker BFG Ford. Another three
points back sits Kevin Probst in his Simply WOW Toyo Chevrolet.
Taylor has won two of the four WSORR rounds of racing with Oberg and
Probst claiming the other two. Other top PRO 2WD contenders include
defending class champion Carl Renezeder in the Lucas Oil BFG Nissan
Titan, Evan Evans in his Potawatomi BFG Chevrolet, Ross Hoek in his
Herculiner Toyo Ford and Rhonda Konitzer in a Goodyear Chevrolet.
Kent Brascho in his Goodyear Chevrolet leads the PRO 4x4 division
with a six-point lead over Al Drews in a Ford. Those two drivers are
at the top of the leader board without a win and are feeling
pressure from PRO 4x4 drivers Scott Douglas who won Round III in his
Amsoil Kumho Ford and Johnny Greaves, the Round IV winner in his
Potawatomi Monster BFG Toyota. Also expected to contend for the win
at Bark River is Carl Renezeder, who successfully debuted his Lucas
Oil BFG Sobe Nissan Titan by winning the 14th Annual Potawatomi
Chairman’s Cup race at Crandon Raceway on June 24th.
In the SRT Division, Bark River’s Ben Wandahsega, in his Potawatomi
Toyo Chevrolet has just a little breathing room in the Super Stock
Truck class with an eight-point lead over Dave Waldvogel’s Bendix
Toyo Chevrolet. Both Wandahsega and Waldvogel have two wins apiece
on the young season.
Another Bark River racer, Scott Beauchamp in a Goodyear Chevrolet,
is threatening to run away with the Stock Truck class points
championship winning three of the rounds of racing and finishing
second in the other. Beauchamp has a commanding 94-71 points lead
over Don Demeny in a Goodyear Dodge. Scott’s cousin Dan Beauchamp,
of nearby Escanaba, also races in the class and currently sits
fourth in the points battle in his Goodyear Ford.
It’s a similar story in the Super Buggy class, where Aaron Hawley
has won three of the four races in his Goodyear sponsored machine
and enjoys a 20 point margin over second place Gary Nierop also on
Goodyear’s. Ryan Mulder of Channing, Mich., racing on Nokian Tires
sits fourth in the points.
Other close WSORR class point battles include the 1600 Buggy class,
where John Fitzgerald on Goodyear’s has a one point lead over Mark
Steinhardt on BFG’s; the Formula 4x4 class where Bob Sayers has a
two point margin over Larry Maciosek, both on Goodyear’s; the 1600
Light Buggy class where Todd Lemke on BFG’s leads Matt Gerald on
Goodyear’s by five points; and the Enduro Truck class where Bob
Rinehart in a Goodyear Ford leads Larry Manske also in a Ford by two
points. Rob Weiland in his Goodyear Chevrolet is the only WSORR
racer to win all four rounds of racing as he enjoys a big lead in
the Classix class.
WSORR racers in 11 classes will be vying for a record $100,000 purse
at the Bark River International Raceway. Racing starts on both
Saturday and Sunday at 11 AM. Ticket information is available online
at www.upoffroad100.com.
Rounds V and VI of the Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing
will appear on SPEED Channel later in 2007 as part of a
comprehensive television package featuring 18 hours of prime time
coverage. NASCAR star Brendan Gaughan, a former short course series
champion, is the Series SPEED race analyst.
WSORR is the largest short-course off-road racing sanctioning
organization in the U.S. Key sponsors for WSORR include Lucas Oil,
Forest County Potawatomi, Nissan, BorgWarner, United Trailers, among
others. More information is available on the worldwide web at
www.wsorr.com.
