Off-Road Points Battles Hot at Bark River
BARK RIVER, Mich. -- Close points battles in the Lucas Oil World
Series of Off-Road Racing (WSORR) “triple-header” coming to Bark
River International Raceway here in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula
August 10-12 promise a full weekend of brutally competitive racing.
Ypsilanti, Mich., driver Al Drews leads a pack of racers in the
World Series PRO 4x4 class. The Drew’s Ford F-150 4x4 has 103
points, followed by the Goodyear Chevrolet of Pell City, Ala., Kent
Brascho with 97 points. A trio of big names continue to climb in the
standings. John Greaves, DePere, Wisc., has 96 points, while two
Californians follow -- Scott Douglas with 78 points and Carl
Renezeder with 73.
A new sponsor, a new truck and a new Series has veteran Kevin Probst
(New Lenox, Ill.) back on top in the PRO 2WD full size pickup class.
The Probst Simply Wow Toyo Tires Chevrolet leads the class with 124
points. He is closely followed by two other veterans -- Scott Taylor
(118) and Mike Oberg (118). Evan Evans has 83 points and Renezeder’s
PRO 2WD entry has earned 76 points. Brian Hinman (Billings, Mont.)
is in the hunt with 75 points. Michigan native Ross Hoek (Holland,
Mich.) is teething a new PRO 2WD truck but expects to be a factor at
Bark River. Evan Evans has 83 points followed by Carl Renezeder with
76 and Brian Hinman earning 75. “This is an important race weekend
for our team,” said Renezeder. “I am bringing my ‘A’ game to
Michigan for all the fans of Lucas Oil, BF Goodrich and Nissan.”
In other off-road racing action, high energy mid-size race pickups
will go to the mat for dominance in Michigan – the Motor Capital of
the World. Michigan native Chad Hord (Felch, Mich.) leads the PRO
Light Pickup class in his Boss Snowplows Kumho Nissan Frontier with
122 points. He is followed by rookie sensation Marty Hart (97),
Randy Eller (94), Jeff Kincaid (92), Steve Federico (88), and Jim
Kandel (87), with Josh Hintz and Art Schmitt knotted at 85 points
each.
Two Michigan racers compete in the Super Stock Truck class. Bark
River’s own Ben Wandahsega leads the class in his Forest County
Potawatomi Toyo Tire Chevrolet with 131 points. Close behind is Dave
Waldvogel (120) and Don Williams (114). Perennial class contender
Dan Baudoux, Hemlock, Mich., is tied with Keith Steele with 78
points
Tim Lemons, Harrison Twp., Mich., (113 points) is pressing Super
Buggy class leader Gary Nierop (118). Channing, Mich., Super Buggy
class racer Ryan Mulder is sitting 4th in points with 84 and looking
to catch Aaron Hawley (109). Herman Barnum, Millington, Mich., is
9th in points. Local Bark River racer Scott Beauchamp leads the
Stock Truck class with 140 points. Formula 4x4 truck racer Larry
Maciosek leads with 117 points. Dave Miah, Belleville, Mich., is 7th
in the F4x4 points chase.
In 1600 buggy action, Mark Steinhardt leads with 130 points but
three wins has powered John Fitzgerald to 126 points. The 1600 Light
class has had six different winners in six races. Racers Matt Gerald
and Greg Stingle are tied with 99 points to lead. Todd Lemke (98),
Wesley Frehse (93), Craig Metz (86), Chad Dewall (77) and Michigan
racers Jamie Kleikamp, Wilson, Mich., (72) and Steve Oman, Felch,
Mich., (69) round out the top eight.
In Grassroots Enduro trucks Larry Manske leads a field of 21 trucks
with 121 points, while Grassroots Classix leader is Robert Weiland
with 126 points.
With supremacy in Michigan – the Motor Capital of the World – on the
line at Bark River Raceway, off-road racers will be out to prove
they have the fastest and toughest machines. “Michigan is an
important market as the auto capital of the world and the Bark River
track is one of the premier facilities in the nation for off-road
racing,” said Richard Ault, promoter, Bark River Raceway.
“We are excited again about bringing entertaining and explosive
WSORR racing action to the State of Michigan and fans in the U.P.”,
said Ault. “The national coverage on SPEED TV is a bonus,” he said.
The special Friday, August 10 “Happy Hour” WSORR PRO off-road racing
show begins at 6 p.m. Racing action continues over the weekend
beginning at 11 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday with round after
continuous round of high impact, high adrenaline off-road racing
action
The Bark River facility is located 15 minutes from Escanaba, 90
minutes from Marquette, 2˝ hours from St. Ignace, and 3 hours from
