WSORR RACE SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED (10-14-08)
CRANDON, Wis. – The Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing romps into
the 40th year of off-road racing in the Midwest with 12 rounds of racing
in three States in 2009.
“We are set for another full season of exciting racing and our mantra
for 2009 is “less gas, more cash”, said Doug Davis, managing general
partner of WSORR.
Davis noted that in the past two seasons WSORR has paid out $1.6 million
in cash, excluding contingency, exclusively to racers. “In these
uncertain economic times and with volatile gasoline and diesel pricing,
we will keep racing venues close to our racers and continue to pay out
hefty purses to World Series racers,” he said.
Notably, 2009 is the 40th anniversary of organized short course off-road
racing in the U.S. Leading the way on the 2009 WSORR schedule is the
opener at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., May 30-31. Two rounds of
racing will be held at the track known as the “Diamond in the Dirt” and
located an hour north of Springfield. The track is one of several
properties owned and operated by WSORR title sponsor Lucas Oil Products.
Many are now familiar with Lucas Oil Stadium – the new home of the
Indianapolis Colts in downtown Indy.
Rounds 3 and 4 on the WSORR’s Tour 2009 will run at venerable Crandon
International Off-Road Raceway, Crandon, Wis. On June 21-22, the “little
town with the big track” will host the annual Forest County Potawatomi
Brush Run Races featuring the 16th annual FCP Chairman’s Cup Challenge
race. The FCP Chairman’s Cup Challenge is the longest running off-road
big money off-road Cup race in the nation.
Next is the first of two visits to Michigan for World Series races at
Bark River International Raceway. The track, located near Escanaba in
Michigan’s nostalgic Upper Peninsula, hosts rounds 5 and 6 on July 10-12
and WSORR racers return to Bark River for rounds 9 and 10 August 8-9.
Both events have been sponsored for many years by the Island Resort
Casino and Boss Snowplows.
WSORR returns to Oshkosh, Wis., on July 24-25 for Rounds 7 & 8. The 2008
event at the Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway at the county fairgrounds was a
major league success. WSORR announced racers will compete under the
lights on consecutive nights, beginning with Round 7 on Friday evening,
July 24. This will be followed by another night round on Saturday.
WSORR caps Tour 2009 at the “Big House” of off-road racing in Crandon
over Labor Day weekend, September 4-6. It is the 40th anniversary of the
track that is the bell-weather of off-road racing in the U.S. Special
events and activities are planned to mark the anniversary at Crandon and
in the Midwest. Series champions will be crowned at the track, as well
as World Champions®. The weekend will include the 3rd annual FCP
“Decision at Sundown” PRO Light Pickup Challenge Cup race and concludes
with short course off-road racing’s most prestigious event – the
BorgWarner Shootout – off-road racing’s equivalent of the Indianapolis
500.
The wide open, high speed World Series of Off-Road Racing will feature a
$100,000 race purse at every 2009 event and three major big money
televised Cup races. The Series features several race classes ranging
from high performance, high horsepower pickup trucks to entry level
1600cc buggies racing on the country's fastest off-road race tracks.
Professional off-road race pickups toss, tumble and bang in the dirt
reaching speeds in excess of 100 MPH.
Official sponsors for WSORR include Lucas Oil Products, Forest County
Potawatomi, United Trailers and Sunoco Race Fuels. General Tire serves
as "Official Tire" of WSORR. Official “R/C car” of WSORR is Traxxas®.
Additional sponsors include Skyjacker, E3 Spark Plugs, BorgWarner and
Super Clean Degreaser. Nationwide coverage of World Series events airs
on SPEED TV. Coverage of the 2008 WSORR season begins in December on
SPEED. Dates and times will be announced.
