BorgWarner Cup Displayed at 2K6 SEMA ShowBorgWarner Cup with Campion Scott Douglas at SEMA

LAS VEGAS, NV -- The most famous award in closed course off-road racing, the BorgWarner Manufacturers’ Challenge Cup, was one of the featured highlights of the 2006 SEMA Show.

The $125,000 Cup was displayed in a specially-prepared enclosed glass case at the Kumho Tire booth on the automotive specialty products convention floor.  The BorgWarner Cup is awarded annually to the winner of the BorgWarner World Championship Shootout at Crandon Raceway in Crandon, WI, and Kumho is a sponsor of the 2006 winner, Scott Douglas.

Douglas spent much of the convention week signing autographs and posing for pictures next to the handcrafted sterling silver with 18-karat gold highlights trophy that stands nearly four feet high.  “It’s an amazing honor to have my name on the BorgWarner Cup twice and I am also honored to be here at the SEMA Show with the Cup where automotive fans from around the world can see this magnificent trophy in person,” said Douglas.

The cup displayed at SEMA is the younger sibling of the most famous trophy in all of racing, the coveted BorgWarner Indianapolis 500 Trophy, presented annually to the Indy 500 winner.  The BorgWarner Shootout race and the Cup, are exclusive to the new Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing (WSORR).

"We appreciate the loan of the Cup for the Kumho Tire booth at SEMA by BorgWarner Corporation, as well as the assistance of both Crandon Raceway and WSORR officials to make it all happen," said Mike Leverington, director of marketing, Kumho Tires.  "It was a first class effort all the way around," he said.

The Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing has established itself as a nationwide short course racing Series with a three-year prime time SPEED Network television package through the 2009 season.  In addition to a three-year Lucas Oil title sponsorship, the Forest County Potawatomi Community (FCP) will receive additional World Series presenting rights as part of a major sponsorship package, also for three years.

The BorgWarner Manufacturers’ Challenge Cup is enroute to Carter, WI, for display and presentation during the “Night of Champions” banquet on November 11, at the Forest County Potawatomi Indian Springs Lodge.  Scott Douglas, a member of the Amsoil-Kumho Super Team, will receive the BorgWarner “King of Off-Road Racing” Championship Drivers Award and a World Championship ring, among other prizes, for his success during the 2006 Labor Day weekend World Championships at Crandon Raceway.   Many other 2006 champion racers will be honored at the banquet including 2006 Crandon World Champions in 11 classes, 2006 Lucas Oil CORR Series champions in eight divisions, as well as special year-end racer awards.

Douglas is the only active driver in closed course racing to have his name attached to the famous BorgWarner Cup twice.  He previously won the event in 1997.  The 13th annual BorgWarner Shootout will be held September 2, 2007 at Crandon Raceway following the final WSORR points racing events (Rounds XV and XIV) and is the final race of the 2007 Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing season.
