Scott Beauchamp Takes Second in WSORR Stock Truck Championship
Escanaba, MI – (September 8, 2008) Scott Beauchamp, the reigning Stock
Truck champion would need a near perfect weekend to keep the WSORR Stock
Truck Championship title. After leading most of the season, a late
season surge by Eric Ruppel put #820 Stewart Manufacturing Bilstein
Shocks Goodyear Tire Chevrolet Silverado in second place, just eleven
points back, going in to the final two races of the year at Crandon
International Off-Road Raceway.
“This is probably the most competitive off-road truck class in the
country,” noted Scott Beauchamp, “We been competing in this class for a
few years now, and each year the competition keeps raising the playing
field.”
Saturday – Round 11
The black and blue #820 Chevy came out of Potawatomi Turn One in ninth
place. Quickly, the driver from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula began picking
off drivers one by one. Then with three laps to go, looking to get by
#863 Konitzer for second place, Scott tried a bold move, with his
Bilstein-equipped Chevy, as he came out of Turn One. Unfortunately, the
truck drifted well beyond the preferred line, causing Scott to loose
ground, and move back into the fourth spot. By the time, Scott regrouped
and was in position to make a move on Demeny, the checkered flag fell.
Scott Beauchamp officially finished in fourth place.
Sunday – Round 12
On the first lap, the #820 Stewart Manufacturing Trailready Bilstein
Goodyear Tire Chevy was battling #863 Al Konitzer for position when,
Konitzer rolled in the Argonne Corner. Scott got caught up in the wreck,
tearing much of the body work off the front end of the truck. At the
same time, the entire Stock Truck field raced by. Thoughts of Bark River
and the overheating problem raced through Scott’s head. To be on the
safe side, Scott gathered up the truck and took an easy lap around,
making sure that all the mechanicals of the truck were still in good
shape. Somehow, the suspension, steering, and engine were all fine, so
the pedal went to the medal the rest of the way to the finish. The next
seven laps, the #820 Chevy was running at a blistering pace. When the
checkered flag fell, Scott Beauchamp crossed the finish in fifth place.
This was quite an accomplishment considering, the entire field passed
him midway through the first lap.
After twelve rounds of racing, Scott Beauchamp finished second in the
2008 Lucas Oil Off-Road Stock Truck Championships. During the 2008
season, Scott had six podium finishes, including two wins, one runner-up
finish, and three third place finishes.
“Winning the championship last year was tough,” commented Scott
Beauchamp. “Defending it was even tougher. Congratulations to Eric
Ruppel for winning the championship. This weekend we just had some tough
luck on the opening laps. It still was a successful season for us. I
need to thank my family and friends that come out every weekend to give
us a hand with the truck. Thanks goes to companies like Stewart
Manufacturing, Goodyear Tire, Trailready, Bilstein, and all those that
help us with product or giving us a break on the price things we need to
get to the track. Rupe, you better be ready, we want our title back next
year.”
Don’t forget to tune into SPEED TV later this year, as the Stock Truck
division will be covered on several broadcasts and also on an episode of
Lucas Oil, “On the Edge.”
