Friday Practice
-
Perfect late Spring weather, blue skies and temperatures in the
mid-70s, greeted WSORR competitors as the teams arrived from all
parts of the United States and Ontario. The recent formation of two
national short-course off road series, saw the PRO-4x4 and PRO-2WD
divisions slightly down in numbers. On the other hand, the Sportsman
division were as strong as ever. The track at the Steele County
Fairgrounds, was laid out within the 1/2 mile banked clay oval. The
layout consisted of several high speed jumps, two sections of
whoops, and a few scattered mid-sized jumps, that offered PRO and
Sportsman divisions a quick, but technically demanded track.
-
-
The afternoon practice sessions offered all divisions two practice
sessions, with most competitors taking advantage of both. The
track crew made only one track adjustment, the removal of a jump
that was at the entrance of the infield turn.

Comments after practice from:
-
PRO-Light, Steven
Federico - " We made alot changes to the chassis over the
winter, a new front suspension and rear end. The practice
session told us we need to revalve the new front Fox Shocks. we've
got Chris Hansen, Mark Hansen (Vehicle Dynamix), and Tim
McNulty working on it . Once I get the handle on the new Goodwin
Motor and the Hancook Tires will be an advantage."
-
-
PRO-2WD Scott Taylor - " Before practice we raised the seat up
1 3/4" and really got me comfortable. The truck ran just ran great,
the brakes are good, this new truck really corners, the BFGoodrich
Tires really put the Roush power to the ground."
-
- Mike
Oberg, PRO-4x4 (Douglas Motorsports) - " As the first one out, some
of the jumps had some sharp edges, and I landed on the nose
pretty good a couple of times, but once we knocked them down
after a few laps, things went pretty well."
-
- Mike
Oberg, PRO-2WD - "Everything went really well, only problem was the
radio. I could here my crew, but I couldn't talk to them... They
don't listen to me anyways!"
-
- Lee
O'Donnell, PRO-Light - "The truck was perfect as usual... I know you
talk to Steve, but I won't comment until Sunday. You could say I'm
pretty excited after today's practice. When Race Fab preps this
truck, it's pretty much ready for the weekend. Case (Race Fab owner)
get's our Nissan Frontier ready to race (unless I wreck it), all we
do is add the fuel and change the tires."
-
-
Steph Krieman, Super Buggy - "The buggy ran great. I really like the
track, it's very technical. This race track suits me well."
