Gerald Still in Hunt for Light Buggy Championship

Bark River, MI (August 11, 2008) - Gerald Racing Team returned to Bark River, Michigan this past weekend for rounds IX and X. After a solid weekend in Oshkosh, Matt was looking to put the pressure on points leader, Mike Vanden Heuvel.

Gerald got another rough start Saturday and had to work his way through traffic.
After picking off a couple cars, Matt lost his brakes going into a corner and had to battle the car the rest of the race where he finished in the middle of the pack. Prior to the race starting, WSORR officials collected fuel samples from the Top 5 drivers in points, after the race was over; the race team found out one of the driver’s fuel was illegal who had finished ahead of Matt in the race resulting in Matt finishing in 13th position instead of 14th.

“I’m just really glad the Forest County Potawatomi Light Buggy was able to hold together and we were able to finish the race with no brakes, we’ve been pretty lucky this year and I’ve got a really good team who helps me every weekend,” said Gerald after the race.

Sunday’s race was a good battle for Gerald Racing Team. With a similar start as Saturday, Gerald was able to battle his way through traffic every lap. Everything seemed to be going smoothly until a driver tried going out of his way to run Matt right off the track and spinning him out, thankfully Gerald was able to save it and pass the driver clean within the next lap.

After a hard long race Gerald was able to work all the way up to 2nd place and battle Mike Vanden Heuvel on the last lap after he almost spun out for 1st place.

“Overall this weekend was pretty good, the car was working awesome today. The Goodyear Tires were hooking up great, especially in the corners and the AMSOIL kept the motor running at a perfect temperature the entire race. I’m really happy that WSORR stepped up this weekend by checking fuel and is keeping this class honest; I just wish they would have done it for the entire class. We’re really looking forward to returning to Crandon for the World Championships,” said Gerald at the end of the weekend.

Currently, Matt Gerald and his #195 Forest County Potawatomi Goodyear Tire VW powered Light Buggy are second in the 2008 WSORR SRT 1600 Light Buggy Championship standings. With only two rounds of racing in the season, Matt still has the opportunity to win the championship.

The final race of the WSORR season is the Borg Warner Off-Road World Championships, August 29-31, in Crandon, Wisconsin.
