Hoek Motorsports debuts Herculiner PRO-2WD Race Truck at Crandon
Ross
Hoek came to Crandon with the brand new 2007 #21 Herculiner, Toyo
Tires, Royal Purple Ford F-150 WSORR Pro-2WD truck. The RHM team had
tested at Crandon a couple of weeks earlier, and the team was
anxious to mix it up with the best PRO 2WD racers in the country.
In Saturday morning practice, the team experienced an oil line
failure which caused the new truck to catch fire and sent the newly
assembled crew into action. Fortunately, the team work flawlessly
together and got Ross and the #21 Herculiner Ford to the staging
area in plenty of time.
The landrush start saw Ross come out of Turn One cleanly looking to
move up in the standings. Almost immediately the truck began to run
on seven cylinders. Nonetheless, Ross pressed on making his was up
to fifth place. 2 laps in the motor began to smoke and Ross
immediately pulled off the track with vivid memories of the
morning’s fire.
Surveying the damage after the race the team found a burnt piston in
the all new race engine and they were with out a spare after
damaging it testing a week earlier. A unique and unfortunate series
of events found the team forced to sit out its first race since
2000.
The next morning Ross talked with BUMPRACER.COM to reflect on the
first weekend of competition for the # 21 WSORR PRO-2WD Herculiner
Toyo Tires Royal Purple Ford F-150.
“We built this truck in six weeks; my guys really went at it hard.
We’ve added some new personnel on the team and we are still learning
some things as a team. Our new engine builder wants certain things
setup differently than what we are used to and these changes took us
out this weekend. We are encouraged because the truck was running
well, even on seven cylinders, and the suspension setup is real
close. Our lap times on Saturday were impressive considering we were
running on seven cylinders. We will get our motor program set by
Bark River and plan to be competing for a podium finish.”
