Mason Takes Another Win in Round 7 –
Extends Super Buggy Lead and Continues Podium streak.
Plymouth, WI - (July 30, 2008) - John Mason went to Oshkosh, Wisconsin
looking to extend his points lead in the WSORR PRO Super Buggy division.
The #912 Mendeola Transaxles Goodyear Tires Honda powered Super Buggy is
coming off back to back wins at Bark River International Raceway.
The Plymouth, Wisconsin native was looking forward to competing on the
short technical race track that relies more on driver ability, than
shear horsepower. The JIMCO race chassis’ a-arm suspension really lends
itself to this type of track.
Friday Night – Round VII
The start saw John come out of the first turn in midpack, in eighth
position. During the entire fourteen lap event, John continued to
gradually pass driver after driver. Then with two laps to go, the
Mendeola Honda made the inside pass on Ryan Mulder, for the lead. The
final mile and a half, John held off Mulder for the win. That makes
three wins in a row for the #912 Mendeola Transaxles Goodyear Tires
Honda powered Super Buggy.
Afterwards, John commented, “The inversion had me start in the middle of
the pack, with really good drivers in front of me. After the experience
in Bark River, winning with second gear, I knew I had a chance at the
win. My dad on the radio kept me focused and here we are.”
Saturday Night – Round VIII
The starting inversion put the PRO-Super Buggy point’s leader in the
fourth row of the starting grid. The start saw John Mason and the #912
Mendeola Transaxles Goodyear Tires Honda powered Super Buggy, come out
of the first turn, in seventh place. By the second lap, the Mendeola
Super Buggy worked its way into fourth place. Suddenly there was a tight
battle for third place between #916 Heynen, #902 Lemons, and John Mason.
John, first got around Heynen, and then a few laps later, made the pass
on Lemons, for the runner up position. A couple laps later the front
left tire went flat and Mason was not able to gain on Nierop to take the
lead. At the checkered flag it was Gary Nierop-first, John Mason-second,
and Tim Lemons-third.
“The competition was really strong tonight,” commented John Mason. “This
is really a driver’s track. Unfortunately a flat front tire kept us from
making a pass for the lead. We continue to finish on the podium, the
only pro driver to do so in all eight rounds, and that’s what you need
to win a championship.”
John Mason has finished on the podium, in all eight rounds of racing.
Currently, John is leading the 2008 WSORR PRO Super Buggy championship
by 12 points, over Tim Lemons.
The next race for Mason Motorsports is August 9-10, in Bark River,
Michigan.
