Mason and Mendeola
Continue to Lead Super Buggy Championship
Plymouth, WI (August 13, 2008) - John Mason came to Bark River
International Raceway looking to continue his unbelievable streak of
podium finishes. The current leader in the WSORR PRO Super Buggy
division needs to be at his best, as the competition is still at his
heels.
The last time John Mason brought his #912 Mendeola Transaxle Goodyear
Tires Super Buggy to Bark River, he swept the competition, winning both
Rounds Five and Six.
Round Nine
The land rush start saw the #912 Mendeola Super Buggy in seventh place.
The second and third place drivers in the championship, Tim Lemon and
Gary Nierop, were already in the top three. John’s spotter, as well as
crew chief and father, David Mason, kept the point’s leader calm, only
allowing him to concentrate on the buggy in front of him. Gradually, as
the laps wound down, John would make passes to move up in the standings.
Then with two laps to go, John caught and passed #915 Mulder, for the
lead. At the finish, it was: John Mason- first, Ryan Mulder – second,
and Gary Nierop – third.
“I knew I could make up a few spots,” commented John Mason. “My dad kept
me focused and told me that my lap times were fast. When I moved into
second place, I figured that was it, but my Goodyear Tires were working
as good in the end, as they were in the beginning. I can’t believe the
season we are having.”
Round Ten
The start for Sunday’s race had #912 Mendeola Super Buggy come out of
“the horseshoe” in second place, behind #929 Schwalbe. By the second
lap, John Mason had taken the lead and it looked like Mason Motorsports
would find the podium. Then on lap five, the dry sump belt broke, ending
the podium streak. Officially, John Mason finished in eleventh place.
“We dodged a bullet the last time here,” commented John Mason. “We had a
near perfect race yesterday, and today we finally, had a mechanical
problem that prevented us from finishing. The buggy has been incredible
all year. The Honda engine has never missed a beat, our Goodyear tires
offer incredible traction, the Mendeola transmission is geared perfect
for our racing, and this continues to be a dream like season. Thanks to
my dad, my wife, my kids, and everyone else that helps us out. My dad
and I are looking forward to competing at the Off-Road World
Championships in Crandon.”
After ten of twelve rounds of racing, John Mason leads the Lucas Oil
World Series of Off-Road Racing PRO Super Buggy Championship, with a
thirty-seven point lead over second place.
The final weekend of racing in WSORR season is the BorgWarner Off-Road
World Championships, August 29-31, in Crandon, Wisconsin.
