Mason Wins
PRO-Super Buggy Championship with Mendeola

-
Plymouth, WI (September 3, 2008) - John Mason entered the final weekend
of the 2008 WSORR race season with a thirty-seven point lead over second
place, Gary Nierop. The hard charging Mason has finished on the podium
nine times out of ten, and needed to finish in eighth place or better in
Round XI to clinch the PRO-Super Buggy Championship. The question was,
should John play it safe, or go for the win and the World Championship
ring that comes with the win on Saturday?
Saturday – Round XI
The start had the Mendeola Goodyear Tire Honda powered Super Buggy come
of Potawatomi Turn One cleanly, in fifth place. The #912 Super Buggy
held its ground. The race was uneventful as John crossed the finish line
in fourth place, taking his first PRO-Super Buggy Championship title.
“Right away, I have to thank my family for all the support they have
given me, this year and every year we’ve been racing,” commented John
Mason. “To come out here and compete all season with these Super Buggy
drivers is awesome. We’re competitors, but we help each other out. A
huge thanks goes out to Mendeola Transaxles, they build some very
durable transmissions and Goodyear Tires, and without them we could not
keep this buggy running up front. Thanks goes to Jeff St. Peter, he does
prep for us and his dedication to detail shows every time we are on the
track. Thanks to the local businesses like Laona Food Mart, Yeager Oil,
and Rhinelander Honda. Now the pressure’s off and we can go at it hard
tomorrow.”
“I would also like to congratulate Tim Lemons on the World Championship
title and a great season as well. He kept me on my toes through out the
season.”
Sunday – Round XII
The hope of finishing on the podium one final time literally went up in
smoke as the dry sump pump pulley slipped off the key and spun on the
shaft. This put an end to the race for John Mason, officially finishing
fourteenth place.
John Mason finished on the podium nine times, including four wins, four
runner-up finishes, and one third place finish.
“I also want to thank Doug Davis and everyone at the World Series of
Off-Road Racing for continuing the tradition of short course off-road
racing in the Midwest. Thanks to all the companies that support the
series, Lucas Oil, the Forest County Potawatomi community, Traxxas,
General Tire, Borg Warner, E3 Spark Plugs, Skyjacker, Sunoco, SuperClean
and United Trailers without great companies like these we would not have
a place to race. Thanks again.”
Mason Motorsports would like to thank all its sponsors, including:
