Ruppel
Goes Wire-to-Wire Winning Round Three at the Brush Run
Chetek, WI (June 25, 2008) – After struggling with electrical woes the
opening weekend in Wheatland, Eric Ruppel and his #837 PHILSINC.COM Art
Carr Transmission Beard Super Seat BFGoodrich Tire Ford F-150 came back
strong at the Forest County Potawatomi Brush Run in Crandon, Wisconsin.
Eric Ruppel has a solid history of podium finishes at the iconic track
in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.
Saturday - Round 3
The eleven truck field lined up in two rows for the land rush start. The
start is a quarter mile long with bumps and moguls all the way down the
grass straightaway. The starting area is about seven trucks wide, then
funnels down to about three wide as the WSORR STOCK TRUCKS exit
Potawatomi Turn One. The fastest STOCK TRUCKS come through this area
exceeding 70 miles per hour.
The start saw Eric and his #837 Ford F-150 take the lead right from the
start. He and second place truck #807 Craig Metz slowly pulled away from
the rest of the field. Much of the race Metz could keep Eric in his
sites, but could never quite get close enough to challenge for the lead.
At the flag it was Eric Ruppel first, Craig Metz second, Scott Beauchamp
third.
"The track was excellent," noted Eric Ruppel. "It was probably the best
condition ever, and we just got the holeshot. I believe this is the most
competitive class in the series, and everybody stepped up this year, so
you really have to have your ducks in a row. Our BFGoodrich tires are
best, the Art Carr Transmission never missed a beat, and it’s really
great to race in the comfort and safety of a new Beard Super Seat.”
Afterwards, Eric’s crew, Kent Kramer and Mark Ewert, went right to work
prepping for Sunday’s race. Without any areas of concern to look after,
the team couldn’t wait for Round 4.
Sunday – Round 4
The green flag fell and the field headed for the most “infamous” turn in
all of off-road racing. The field saw some rubbing go on as they all
headed down the front straight. Eric got hung up in traffic and was
involved with a rubbing incident, slowing his momentum through the first
corner. The PHILSINC.COM Ford was seventh after the first corner. After
a couple of laps Eric had worked his way into fifth place. By now the
front runners had put too much real estate between themselves and the
#837 F-150. Eric continued to press, crossing the finish line in fifth
place.
“The start here is extremely important,” stated Eric Ruppel. “Today I
just missed it off the start and then got involved with some traffic. By
the time I got clear of everything, there wasn’t enough time to make up
the ground to get to the leaders. The truck ran perfect both days, no
complaints, just yesterday I got an awesome holeshot. This truck is a
blast to drive. The Fox Shox are set up just right. Today we had to
abuse the engine and transmission a bit to get around a competitor, but
thanks to AMSOIL and ART CARR neither missed a beat.”
Currently Eric Ruppel is in third place in the 2008 WSORR Stock Truck
Championship standings.
The next race for Eric Ruppel is the Island Casino/Boss Snow Off-Road
Challenge, July 12-13, in Bark River, Michigan.
