Monster
Energy Boosts Keith Steele to Super Truck Win
Madison, WI (July 19, 2007) After back to back podium finishes at the FCP
Brush Run in Crandon, Wisconsin, Keith Steele and his #229 Monster Energy
Chevy Silverado came to Bark River looking to build on their earlier
success. The veteran Stock Truck competitor and current class champion,
has adapted very well to the bigger, faster, Super Truck division.
Round 5
The
start saw the #229 Monster Energy Goodyear Tires Chevrolet Silverado truck
in behind #282 Waldvogel. On lap 2, Wandahsega passed Keith for second,
and then promptly rolled his truck out of contention. On lap 3, Keith put
the Wolverine Performance horsepower to the Goodyear tires and found
himself in the lead. The Monster Energy Chevy held the lead, all the way
to the checkered flag.
After missing the opening two rounds of racing in Owatonna, Keith Steele
now has two third place finishes and a win in his first three races, in
the WSORR Super Truck division.
Round 6
This time Keith grabbed the holeshot with #297 Wandahsega right behind.
Wandahsega stayed right with the Monster Energy Chevy, but Keith kept him
at bay. That is, until lap 6, when the ring and pinion failed, ending
Keith’s strong run.
After the weekend, BUMPRACER.COM caught up with Keith Steele to talk
about his weekend.
With only three rounds of racing in the Super Truck division, tell me
about Saturday’s win.
“The win was incredible. We didn’t get the truck done in time for
Owatonna, but we showed our potential right away at Crandon. Getting the
win, especially in this division, wasn’t expected so soon. The support
from Monster Energy gave our team a real boost. The Wolverine
Performance powerplant, the J & H transmission, the Yank torque
converter, and the Goodyear tires, are really working great together.”
Is there any comparison between your former Stock Truck and the
Monster Energy Super Truck?
“The Stock Truck had a lot of limitations, in the rulebook. The Super
Truck is practically a PRO-2WD truck with certain limitations, on the
engine. Overall, it’s a completely different machine. More power, more
suspension, and more adjustments can be made to the truck, to adapt to
each specific track.”
It sounds like a big jump going from last year to this year.
“Yes, it is. We found out Sunday, how short the lifespan of a ring and
pinion can be. Fortunately, we have been close on the chassis setup at
both tracks. Now, I need to get more comfortable driving the truck. I’m
working on keeping my driving smooth and consistent. Being familiar with
the Bark River track and how the truck reacts, will definitely help us,
when we get back here next month.”
Next Race –
