Keith Steele WSORR Bark River II Race Report

Madison, WI (August 15, 2007)  - Keith Steele and his #229 Monster Energy Chevy Silverado Super Truck went back to Bark River for Rounds 7 and 8 of the WSORR 2007 Tour, looking to build on the team’s early season success. This weekend of races proved to the team how close the competition is in the premier WSORR SRT division.

Round 7
The start of the race was the key for the entire class. The landrush start saw Keith in his #229 Monster Energy Goodyear Tires USG Sheetrock Chevrolet Silverado exit the first turn in fifth place. On lap 5, Keith moved around #297 Wandahsega for the fourth spot. The nine lap race ended with Baudoux 1st, Waldvogel 2nd, Don Williams 3rd, and Keith Steele 4th. Only Keith and Baudoux improved their position during the entire round of racing.

Round 8
Once again the running order as the pack came out of Turn One set the tone of the race. The first half of the race, Keith battled #277 Williams for the fourth spot. On lap 5, as Keith was making a pass for position on Williams, the #277 threw a block on the Monster Energy Super Truck. The contact caused a flat tire on Keith’s Silverado. The ensuing pit stop, to replace the tire, put the team a lap down. This put Steele Off-Road team well down at the finish.
Afterwards Keith talked to BUMPRACER.COM about his weekend.
“The start, this weekend, was really important. It seemed like where ever you came out of the first turn, that’s basically where you finished. Saturday’s race I stumbled a bit when the green flag dropped. The truck ran great. The competition in Super Truck is really close.
Then on Sunday, I had to work hard to get around Williams, he kept throwing a block every time I tried to make a pass. The last time we made contact and the tire went down. I’m disappointed on Sunday’s outcome, but the overall the truck has been awesome. The Goodyear tires really hooked up, the King Shocks are really dialed in, and the new body panels from Autoform really held up to all the abuse. Of course thanks go out to Monster Energy for all the support and keeping the entire Steele Off-Road race team performing at the highest level.”
