Steele Continues Monster Run Towards Super Truck Championship Madison, WI (August 12, 2008) - Keith Steele and his #229 Monster Energy Goodyear Tire Chevy Silverado continues to dominate the Super Truck division, as he extends his consecutive streak of podium finishes to eight, with nine podiums overall. The past weekend saw the Monster Energy Chevy bring home one win, and a runner-up finish, at Bark River International Off-Road Raceway. The Bark River all-natural terrain track is fast, as well as technical, making it a very difficult track for many to get a handle on. The race series competed on the same track just one month ago, but the track characteristics can vary greatly, in just a few weeks time. That was the case, once again, in 2008. After the Friday afternoon practice session, the team made minor changes to the Monster Energy Chevy. Keith and the crew chief were very confident with the truck’s setup. As with all the other rounds of racing, the Super Truck and PRO-4 divisions were racing at the same time, in a Challenge Race format. Saturday - Round 9 The start saw #279 Schreiner grab the initial holeshot, with Keith and the 229 Chevy right on his bumper. Meanwhile, the rest of the Super Truck field was bottled up in the first turn, as several trucks got sideways. The incident really allowed the top two trucks to put some distance on the rest of the field. By lap two, Keith made the pass for the lead and never looked back. With two laps to go, Keith was passed by the hard charging PRO-4x4 truck of Kent Brascho. Wisely, Keith moved over, as it was important to win the season long Super Truck Championship, and not taking the overall win of the day’s race. At the finish, Keith Steele crossed the line in first, with Ben Wandahsega second, and Ross Hoek in third. Congratulations to Kent Brascho for winning the PRO-4x4 division and taking the overall win. It was the first time this year that a PRO-4x4 took the overall win. “Our race truck is really working well,” notes Keith Steele. “We seem to be making smaller and smaller adjustments to the chassis setup. When my spotter told me Kent was right behind me, I knew to just let him go. We are out here to win a championship and racing hard with a PRO-4x4 could upset that run for the top spot.” Sunday - Round 10 When the green flag flew, Keith took a cautious approach to the first turn. By the end of the first lap, the Monster Energy Chevy was in fourth place. On the white flag lap, Keith made the pass into second place. The leader of the race, #297 Wandahsega and second place Keith Steele, were now running very fast and similar lap times. Keith put all the Monster Energy he could, into the Goodyear tires, but was unable to make a run at Wandahsega. The finishing order for Round Ten was: Ben Wandahsega, first, Keith Steele, second, and rookie Ron Schreiner third. “Ben had us covered today,” commented Keith Steele. “The level of competition in Super is very good. Watch Ron Schreiner out there, he’s a rookie in this sport, but he’s really put together a great program. This was another great weekend for the Monster Energy Goodyear Tires Chevy Silverado. I can’t thank my crew, my family, and my friends enough, for all the hard work with this team. Without them, I wouldn’t be here. I can’t wait to race under the Friday night lights at Crandon.” After ten rounds of racing, Keith Steele continues to lead the WSORR Super Truck Championship. The final weekend of racing for Keith Steele in the Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing, is the BorgWarner Off-Road World Championship, August 29-31, in Crandon, Wisconsin.
