Scott Taylor Back on Top in PRO-2WD
Belvidere, IL (August 14, 2007) - Scott Taylor and his #8 Skyjacker
Suspensions BFGoodrich Tires Ford F-150 came to Bark River in second
place in the Championship standings looking to retake the top stop in
the PRO-2WD division. The Bark River track, historically, has been a
tough course for Taylor Racing to tame, so Scott brought his Chief
Engineer, Russ Wernimont, in from California to assist with the race
weekend.
New for 20007, WSORR and the race promoters, the Bark River Lions
Club, added an additional round of racing on Friday afternoon, which
mean extra work for the race teams, but also additional points to be
won.
Friday – Round 7
The start saw Scott and #1 Renezeder, battling through the first turn,
with both competitors spinning out, allowing the rest of the PRO-2WD
field to get a jump on the two perennial front runners.
The rest of the ten lap event saw Scott work his way towards the
front. On the final lap Scott moved the Skyjacker Ford into third
place. At the finish it was Renezeder 1st, Oberg 2nd, and Scott Taylor
3rd.
“The start really hurt our chances for a win today,” stated Scott
Taylor. “There was some overly aggressive driving out there today.
Hopefully it will calm down the rest of the weekend. We’re here to
race, not tear up each other’s equipment.”
Saturday – Round 8
Scott put the Roush Performance horsepower to the BFGoodrich tires and
quickly moved into second place by lap two. Then on lap three the
right rear wheel broke, putting Taylor Racing into the hot pits for a
tire change. By the time Scott got back on course, he was two laps
down. At the checkered flag, he was credited with a seventh place
finish.
“Russ and I sat down and talked quite a bit about what truck was doing
at different sections of the track, I think we had a good shot for the
top spot,” commented Scott Taylor. “Then the rear wheel broke.
Unfortunately I waited too long to come in. The broken wheel flattened
the tire of course, and then it wrapped itself around the rear axle
and took out the brake line. My crew did the best they could to get me
back out, but it was a mess back there. Overall, the truck’s in good
shape, we’ve got one more shot at the win this weekend.”
Sunday – Round 9
The final ten lap PRO-2WD race of the weekend was a battle between
Scott Taylor and Evan Evans. The first seven laps saw Evans leading
with Scott right on his bumper looking to make a clean pass. On lap 8,
Scott drove inside Evans going through Armed Forces Turn One.
Initially Evans held off Scott, then Evans over rotated the exiting
the turn, allowing Skyjacker Suspensions #8 to take the lead. The
capacity crowd went wild as Scott charged into the lead as Evans drove
through the track’s sponsor banners. The finishing order was Scott
Taylor 1st, Evan Evans 2nd, and Rhonda Konitzer 3rd.
Scott Taylor also ran the fastest lap of the race @ 1:25.1 minutes.
“It’s great to finish at the top again,” remarked Scott Taylor. “You
know this place hasn’t been our best track over the years, so winning
today let’s us know we are headed in the right direction, with this
new truck. Russ came in for this race, and along with input from
Skyjacker Suspensions and Roush Performance, we are trying to get the
chassis to handle all the power Roush gives us. Charlie at ATD builds
us a great transmission that gets that power to the rear wheels, we
are still working on the complete package. The truck’s got more in it;
we just have to figure out the proper balance. We are going to test at
Crandon this week. We should have an even better handle on the truck
for the Labor Day weekend.”
The win also put Scott Taylor back on top of the WSORR PRO-2WD
Championship points standings.
