Vanden Heuvel Sr. Sweeps
Oshkosh – Continues to Lead PRO-2WD
Appleton, WI (July 28, 2008) - The Flying Dutchman Off-Road Race
team is flying high, as Dan Vanden Heuvel left Bark River in sole
position of first place, in the WSORR PRO-2WD championship. The
chassis setup on the short, technical track, at the Winnebago County
Fairgrounds, would need a completely different setup to keep his
Chevy Silverado at the front of the pack.
For the first time, Dan Vanden Heuvel Sr. would be competing against
his son, Dan Jr., in the PRO-2WD. Dan Jr. would be substituting for
Evan Evans in the hand control #5 Forest County Potawatomi Chevy.
Friday - Round VII
The start saw #5 Dan Jr. grab the lead and hold the top spot until
lap three, when Dan Sr. in his #77 Maxxis Tire FK Rods Chevy made
the pass at the end of the straightaway.
Just past the half way point of the race, #99 Probst made a late
charge at Dan Sr. for the lead. At one point, Probst made the pass
for lead, only to have the Maxxis Tire Chevy take it right back.
After that exchange, the top three positions never changed; Dan
Vanden Heuvel Sr. first, Kevin Probst second, and Dan Vanden Heuvel
Jr. third.”
“What an awesome race,” commented Dan Vanden Heuvel Sr. “I knew
Kevin was coming. The contact coming out of the last turn was not
intentional, and Kevin and I talked and we’re good about it. To have
Dan Jr. grab the lead and have to chase him down, shows the talent
the Vanden Heuvel family has. Then my other son, Mike, won Light
Buggy again. The Maxxis tires really hooked up on this clay, what a
great tire. I can’t thank my crew enough for all the work they put
in.”
Saturday - Round VIII
The start saw Dan Vanden Heuvel quickly move into second place,
behind #10 Waldvogel. The two trucks battled each other the first
nine laps, when Dan and his Maxxis Tire Chevy made the pass stick
for good. The veteran off-road racer took his second win of the
weekend. Dan was joined by his son, Dan Jr., again, as the #5 truck
finished in second, with #29 Steele in third.
“Again, what a weekend,” exclaimed Dan Vanden Heuvel Sr. “Winning
both nights. Junior on the podium with me and my other son, Mike,
winning both of his Light Buggy races. The Maxxis tires were just
the ticket tonight. My family and crew, I can’t thank them enough.
There’s no time to rest, because Bark River is right around the
corner.”
After eight rounds of racing, Dan Vanden Heuvel Sr. continues to
lead the 2008 WSORR PRO-2WD championship.
The next race is the Island Casino/Boss Snow Off-Road Challenge II,
in Bark River, Michigan, August 16 & 17.
