JEFF KINCAID ROLLS ON WITH A WSORR 3-PEAT AT THE BIG HOUSE
DURING WSORR ROUND III (6-22-08)
CRANDON, Wisc. – Jeff Kincaid made it three wins in a row in the
Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing (WSORR) taking the
hole shot and leading flag-to-flag at what he considers his
hometown track, historic Crandon Raceway. Kincaid of nearby
Argonne, Wisc., drove his Potawatomi Traxxas® BFG Toyota to the
win ahead of PRO Light Pickup rival Chad Hord in his Boss
Snowplows Kumho Mazda. Steve Federico in the Invisible Glass PF
Chang’s Hankook Toyota was third. Kincaid is now the only WSORR
driver with three straight wins in the young WSORR season.
The hole shot was also the key in the PRO 2WD class battle, as
Kevin Probst, in the E3 Spark Plugs Toyo Chevy came flying
around Crandon’s famous Potawatomi turn one and never looked
back cruising to the win ahead of a very fast field. The crowd
focused on the battle for second as class newcomer Dave
Waldvogel in his Bendix Toyo Chevy and veterans Dan Vanden
Heuvel in the Maxxis Chevy and Scott Taylor in the Skyjacker BFG
Ford battled back and forth fender-to-fender with lots of
contact but clean racing. Waldvogel spun out and the two 30-year
veterans took a page out of the past and diced back and forth
until Taylor finally managed to get around the Flying Dutchman
to finish second.
“Probst absolutely had this field covered and it sets up a very
intriguing Potawatomi Chairman’s Cup race tomorrow,” commented
Doug Davis, general manager of WSORR. “He was the fastest off-roader
on the planet today, nobody from Guam to Dakar to Baja to
California was going to catch him. Probst has to be considered a
legitimate threat to be the second PRO 2WD ever to win the
shootout which features the best of the two-wheel and four-wheel
drive heavy metal trucks racing together,” he added. Taylor
pulled off the feat in the 2002 race.
In PRO 4x4 action, points leader Kent Brascho, in his Lucas Oil
Goodyear Chevy grabbed the hole shot and was chased by Johnny
Greaves of Abrams, Wisc., in the Potawatomi Monster BFG Toyota
and Scott Douglas in the Amsoil Kumho Ford. Greaves stalked
Brascho for a few laps and then powered by him. Douglas followed
his rival to the finish followed by newcomer Mike Jenkins in the
Traxxas Slash™ BFG Ford who made his first appearance on a WSORR
podium. Brascho faded to fifth.
The PRO Super Buggy class defending champion Gary Nierop in his
Goodyear Toyota controlled the Round III race for the first six
laps but mechanical issues allowed the field to catch up and
Scott Schwalbe of Rhinelander, Wisc., in a BFG Toyota grabbed
the win. Points leader Tim Lemon on Goodyears finished second
and John Mason in his Mendeola Goodyear Honda was third.
In the WSORR SRT Super Stock Truck class, Ben Wandahsega, led
the first three laps in his Potawatomi Toyo Chevy but pulled off
the track allowing the hard charging Keith Steele of Madison,
Wisc., in the Monster Energy Goodyear Chevy to speed by for the
win. Ross Hoek in his Skyjacker Goodyear Chevy was second and
Ron Schreiner in his UWeld Toyo Super Truck managed his
first-ever WSORR podium.
The Stock Truck battle in Round III was won by Eric Ruppel of
Chetek, Wisc., in his Phil’s Inc., BFG Ford. Class points leader
Craig Metz in the Able Distribution BFG Ford was second followed
by defending class champion Scott Beauchamp in a Goodyear Chevy.
Bob Sayers was the Formula 4x4 Round III winner in a Goodyear
Ford and defending class champion Dave DeMaegd was second in his
Goodyear Jeep. John Holtz in a BFG Jeep was third.
Perennial 1600 Buggy champion Mark Steinhardt of Rhinelander,
Wisc., is off to a big points lead again in 2008 thanks to his
Round III win in his BFG buggy. Brad Erickson on Goodyears was
second followed by Mike Seefeldt on BFGs in third. The 1600
Light Buggy race in Round III was won by Potawatomi hotshoe Matt
Gerald of Neenah, Wisc., on Goodyear tires. Friendly rival Mike
Vanden Heuvel in his Toyo machine pushed him to the finish line
with points leader Jeff Virnig third. In the Grassroots
division, Bob Rinehart won the Enduro Truck battle and Justin
Keehner was the Classix winner.
WSORR Tour 2008 Round IV is also at Crandon, Wisc., as part of
the Forest County Potawatomi Brush Run Races. The weekend
features the 15th annual FCP Chairman’s Cup Challenge. For more
